The discount we never knew could come with registering to vote.
Today is officially National Voter Registration Day – and it’s also the final day to register to be eligible to vote in the upcoming West Yorkshire Combined Authority Mayoral Election next month.
And as a way of encouraging particularly younger voters to spend five minutes signing up to the electoral register, Leeds-born brewery Northern Monk is giving a special discount on all core beers.
Customers can also scan QR codes on t-shirts worn by the staff to register to vote inside Northern Market or Northern Monk’s Refectory taprooms in Leeds or Manchester to get the offer, and you can even register whilst your pint is poured.
We’re told “if people can show they’ve registered, they’re eligible – simple as that”.
“At Northern Monk we know how important it is to make your voice heard,” said Ciaran Shier, Positive Impact Director at Northern Monk.
“Nearly half of all 18-34s didn’t vote in the last election – that’s around 6 million people not having their say. We’re encouraging people to register to vote today ahead of the local and national elections this year so more people can speak up and be represented. And we’re doing it in the way we know how – with beer.”
This isn’t the first time Northern Monk has been giving away pints this year. The ‘new look’ for the brand saw a whopping 1200 pints of Northern Monk’s trademark beer Faith handed out back in February.
You can register to vote in the upcoming elections on the UK Government website here.
