A Pudsey curry house is flying high this weekend after being officially ranked the very best in the whole of the north of England.

Lala’s on Bradford Road was named the very best curry restaurant in the north by the Asian Catering Federation at this year’s awards, which took place at Manchester’s Mercure hotel on Piccadilly.

Having only opened in January last year, it’s no mean feat – especially given the fact that the events of the past eighteen months have left most businesses closed more often than they’ve been open.

Having gone up against seasoned heavyweights such as Akbars and Aagrah in the competitive awards, the fact that they came out with the top gong is even more impressive.

This Lala’s in Pudsey is the fifth that Mr. Rashid has opened, with others to be found in Wakefield, Huddersfield, and Bradford.

“We didn’t expect a lot because some of these restaurants have been around for decades and there’s a lot of curry houses in the north of England.

“I’ve looked up to some of these restaurants for a long time so to win against them was quite overwhelming.

“This achievement is quite something because we have only been open for a short time and we have had to deal with the pandemic too.

“But we are a great team and I was glad to win for all of us. It’s really very flattering and it was a great night.

“We spared no expense in renovating this pub and it does look very well but it is the food and service that matter and we always go the extra mile to please our customers.”

It wasn’t the only Lala’s to win an award, with the Bradford site also scooping a gong at the event. The St George’s Square restaurant took home best commended at the awards.
