It’s that time of the year again.
When the wrapping paper starts to overflow from the bins and the scraps from the turkey dinner don’t seem to fit in any waste bags, no matter how hard you try.
During the Christmas period there’s one change that we all forget to check. The dreaded Christmas bin collection dates.
If you miss one, you can end up stuck with all that wrapping paper recycling and festive food scraps for weeks- so don’t forget to write the changes down.
There’s not too many changes this year, with waste and recycling services only closing on Boxing Day given that Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve falling on a Sunday.
Normal service resumes after Christmas, but in the meantime these are the dates to be aware of…
If your normal bin day would have been… | Your amended collection day will be… |
Monday 19 December | One day early on Sunday 18 December |
Tuesday 20 December | One day early on Monday 19 December |
Wednesday 21 December | One day early on Tuesday 20 December |
Thursday 22 December | One day early on Wednesday 21 December |
Friday 23 December | One day early on Thursday 22 December |
Saturday 24 December | One day early on Friday 23 December |
Monday 26 December | Two days early on Saturday 24 December |
The council is also reminding people that Christmas trees can be recycled, and if you use the St Gemma’s Hospice scheme, you’ll be doing it all for a great cause too.
St Gemma’s Hospice is offering collection services from postcodes in LS4, LS5, LS6, LS7, LS8, LS13, LS14, LS15, LS16, LS17, LS18 from 12 – 15 January 2023, and take it to the recycling center in return for a donation.
You can book the Treecycling Service here.
Alternatively, you take your tree to a Leeds City Council recycling centre yourself to be composted.
