The exciting collaboration will see an iconic pub open its doors once again.
It’s a great start to the new year for beer lovers across Leeds, as two of the city’s biggest names on the beer scene are joining forces to open up a new venture.
Kirkstall Brewery and the owners of Whitelock’s Ale House and The Five Points Brewing Company are set to breathe new life into The Victoria & Commercial Pub on Great George Street, located behind Leeds Town Hall.
The beautiful Grade II-listed will be restored to it’s former glory, and we absolutely cannot wait.
Opening all the way back in 1865, The Victoria is one of the city’s most coveted historical buildings that has been left empty since 2020.
The esteemed team will be restoring the pub’s traditional interior, installing a brand-new kitchen and upgrading the beer dispensing equipment throughout.
So it’s safe to say that punters will be able to get a very good pint from the new Victoria indeed.
Steve Holt, founder of Kirkstall Brewery, told Leeds-List: “This is a wonderful opportunity to preserve an icon of Leeds pub history, our own pedigree of restoring historic pubs puts us in good stead for this project. Additionally, the chance to take on one of the most beautiful pubs in the city in partnership with Whitelock’s, Leeds’ oldest pub, was one we simply couldn’t pass up.”
Ed Mason, Whitelock’s Managing Director and co-founder of The Five Points Brewing Company said: “We’ve had a close partnership with Steve and his team for a long time, so when the opportunity came along to join forces it felt like a natural next step.
“At a time when so many pubs are being lost, we are delighted to be able to work with the developer to ensure that this beautiful Victorian pub is preserved for future generations.”
The Victoria is set to open in September 2024, and until then we’ll be on the edge of our seats waiting for further announcement and glimpses of what’s to come.
