Rightmove has released its annual list of the happiest places to live in the UK, and a Yorkshire town comes in at number six.

The Happiest at Home Index for 2023 has been released, and we are quite gutted that only one Yorkshire location has made in onto the list.

If it were up to us then no other county would be included, but maybe we’re a little biased.

A whopping 26,000 people were interviewed by Rightmove to decipher the results.

They’re asked questions about how they feel towards where they live, encompassing a range of subjects from a the sense of community to access to green spaces.

Coming in at number six is the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton.

Boasting a historic castle, a famous market and a beautiful canal which runs through the town, it’s no surprise that people here are overcome with happiness.

Not only that, you’ve got the wonderful Bolton Abbey on your doorstep as well as the Ilkley moors if you fancy a stroll in the blustery Yorkshire Dales.

The top ten happiest places to live in the UK according to Rightmove are:

  1. Richmond upon Thames, Greater London
  2. Winchester, South East
  3. Monmouth, Wales
  4. Wokingham, South East
  5. Cirencester, South West
  6. Skipton, Yorkshire and The Humber
  7. Hemel Hempstead, East of England
  8. Kensington and Chelsea, Greater London
  9. St Ives, South West
  10. Hexham

Last year, the Happiest at Home Index saw Yorkshire’s spa town of Harrogate make the list in sixth place also, but it seems Skipton residents have had a happy spike this year and made their way up into the chart.

Rightmove’s survey found that people seem to be happier living in rural areas over cities – especially if they lived near a national park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

People were also happy if they lived nearby public transport, shops and restaurants.
