Leeds United left it late but produced one of the most jubilant endings to a game this season to beat Hull City and remain second in the Championship.
The title race really does look like it’s going to go down to the wire.
The Whites not only look determined to go straight back into the Premier League as they cling on to automatic promotion but are still only just a point off division leaders Ipswich Town, who also won in extremely late and even more dramatic fashion.
Daniel Farke described the relieving win as “priceless” as Dan James made absolutely certain of all three points with a last-gasp lobbing of the keeper from just over the halfway line and sent the Leeds limbs flying.
United did take an early lead through Sam Byram in the ninth minute but the visitors equalised just ten minutes before the end of the first half through Liverpool loanee Fábio Carvalho.
From then on, it was a tense story of desperately trying to find a breakthrough but as the clock ticked dangerously closer towards stoppage time, it looked like the home side might only manage a draw or worse.
Then, thanks to a driving run towards the byline from Crysencio Summerville, the number ten managed to earn his side an all-important penalty in the 88th minute.
Having beaten his man and won the spot-kick, he simply refused to give up the chance to default taker Joël Piroe who had just come on the pitch, which no doubt added some extra nerves amongst those watching on, but he got the job done nonetheless.
Some night to be at Elland Road and it’ll no doubt go down as one of the best nights in recent memory regardless of who ends up being crowned Champion next month.
Still boasting a better goal difference than Kieran McKenna’s side in the table and not having lost a game since the FA Cup fourth round against Chelsea back in February, we have every faith it could still be Leeds with their hands on the trophy.
