The Middleton Railway is the world’s oldest continuously working railway.
Situated in Leeds it was founded in 1758 and is now a heritage railway, run by volunteers from The Middleton Railway Trust since 1960 – and in 2021 it’s a great day out for all the family.
Whether you want to grab the kids and give them something to do, or visit with another adult, there is something for everybody at Middleton Railway.
For a family of two adults and three children, it will cost £18 for a trip on a steam engine and entry to the museum (and gift shop).
The well looked after station and all of its steam trains are perfectly reserved and in mint condition – making it a worthy visit for any proper train enthusiasts, too.
Riding the train is a beautiful experience, but if that’s not your thing, the station is situated right next to the awesome Middleton Park, which has a gorgeous ancient woodland to get your steps in through, plenty of open grassland and it also has a boating lake you can sit by.
The railway operates passenger services at weekends and on public holidays over approximately 1 mile of track between its headquarters at Moor Road, in Hunslet, and Park Halt, on the outskirts of Middleton Park.
The site opens at 10:00 with the first train departing at 10:30, and the last train departs at 15:30.
