This Yorkshire care home has a puppy on staff to cuddle its residents

5 month old puppy Lady works at Cleveland House Bupa Care Home in Huddersfield

Sweet miniature dachshund Lady is bringing joy to the residents of a West Yorkshire care home with her kind nature and warm cuddles in her new role.

She works at Cleveland House Bupa Care Home in Huddersfield as a therapy dog, giving comfort to residents in their final days.

Lady bagged the care home job after ‘sensing’ when residents were ill and comforting them with her cuddles.

Unsurprisingly, she’s become quite the hit with residents since starting on International Dog Day, August 26.

She belongs to the care home’s manager, Leanne Snowden, who came up with the idea to bring her pet to work for residents to cuddle a while ago.

“Lady brings so much joy to our residents, they all love her, and Lady is so loving towards them too,” said Leanne, speaking to The Mirror.

“She is happy to sit with them and to have a cuddle and she will always play along with them. When Lady runs off into the lounge to try to get more attention from our residents, they all think it’s highly hilarious watching me trying to catch her!

“We have a resident called Joyce who recently became unwell. Joyce adores Lady and she will often ask for her to come visit, to brighten up her day. The interaction between them is so lovely to see, Joyce’s face just lights up!”

Lady’s days are pretty busy, with pet therapy sessions in the morning followed by an afternoon running around the care home’s gardens.

She likes to finish the day with a fun game of ‘fetch’, playing with residents in the lounge – and one in particular is always happy to entertain her.

Geoffrey is a particular fan, telling The Daily Star:  “I love Lady and I really enjoy cuddling her and playing fetch in the lounge. I’m looking forward to getting stronger and more mobile so that I can take Lady for a walk in the gardens, very soon!”
