An independent open-air community hub with street food and outdoor screens is planned for Sheffield city centre

Plans have been formally submitted for a new outdoor community hub in the heart of Sheffield city centre.

Just in time for summer too.

Introducing Earl’s Yard, a locally owned and operated courtyard space planned to land on Matilda Street with an aim to bring a surge of energy to the city centre.

The proposed open-air venue will feature multiple independent street food vendors, a bar, communal seating and large screen TVs perfect for sporting events.

The space will champion local traders and create an accessible, welcoming environment where people can gather openly in the city centre - whether for street food, live entertainment, or a shared big-screen moment.

Although still in its early stages, the concept has already sparked strong interest from independent operators and event partners.

We'll keep you updated with more information when we get it, but for now we'll be dreaming of an outdoor pint at the city's newest beer garden.

It comes alongside a whole host of new openings coming to the city centre, in a few weeks we'll be welcoming Forbici which is a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant made famous in Manchester where every pizza is served with a pair of scissors.

Not only that but we may be seeing a return of The Leadmill as a Crowdfunder has been set up in the hope to see the iconic venue find a permanent new premises, now that really would be great news.

A bold new street-food concept has just arrived at Meadowhall, and they're giving away free corn dogs to celebrate.

Introducing East Street, a high-energy Far Eastern street food brand designed for those on-the-go looking for a quick yet satisfying burst of flavour.

Inspired by neon-lit urban culture, customers can expect to be transported across the globe with dishes that are fast without compromising on quality.

Independently owned and backed by over 25 years of restaurant experience through the renowned Tampopo family, East Street has built a firm following over in Manchester and luckily for us has now opened in Sheffield's Meadowhall.

So, looking for a delicious pick-me-up whilst doing your shopping? Here's what you can expect from the brand-new East Street. .

The menu is stuffed to the brim with satisfying dishes to keep you going, from crispy katsu curries and Pad Thai to irresistibly cheesy Korean corn dogs. Seriously, you won't believe that cheese pull.

Think big flavours, vibrant aesthetics, and the ultimate grab-and-go lunch spot.

Simply order what you fancy from the interactive screens and before you know it you'll be served a piping hot meal in a flash, it really couldn't be easier.

There's noodle dishes, rice dishes and even beloved salt and pepper fries on offer, and if you don't fancy a main there's some great sides like vegetable spring rolls and Thai chicken wings.

The best part? With any main meal purchased up until Sunday 8 March 2026, you can grab yourself a FREE Original Cheese Corn Dog or the Triple Cheese Corn Dog.

And it doesn't stop there, there's also a special BOGOF offer on until Tuesday 31 March where you can buy any dish and get one from the same section completely free of charge.

All you have to do is mention the offer to your server before ordering - we can't think of a better excuse to try out this new spot.

Forbici is coming to Sheffield and we couldn't be happier.

Always a hot topic of conversation around a pizza is how to eat the damn thing – knife and fork, slice and hold, fold it up?

And now a new pizza concept is heading to Sheffield, where authentic Neapolitan pizzas are always served with a pair of scissors for cutting up your dinner.

We here at The Sheff are firm believers that scissors are a far superior tool for getting your pizza into slices, so news that Forbici (which literally translates as ‘Scissors’ from Italian) is opening in the city centre is music to our ears.

Forbici has officially confirmed it will open its doors in Sheffield’s Millenium Square on Friday 27 March.

And after becoming a firm favourite amongst foodies over in Manchester including none other than Marco Pierre White who hailed it as the 'best pizza I've ever had in my life!', we're sure it's going to go down a treat.

Claiming to be arriving in town with ‘the world’s most powerful pizza dough’, the restaurant hails a ‘new wave’ of pizzeria.

Its roots will be firmly in Naples, with puffy biga dough handmade fresh daily and proofed for 12 hours. It’ll be made so fresh every day that pizzas will only be available while the dough lasts.

Forbici will serve its pizza the Neapolitan way too – quartered (it’s ‘four ways always’, with scissors, which protects that signature airy crust.

Forbici’s signature creations include classics such as the Marinara, Margherita and American, alongside Italian-inspired creations like the Provola e Pepe, topped with San Marzano tomato, smoked provola, black pepper and fresh basil, as well as indulgent white-base pizzas such as the Porcini e Tartufo, loaded with Fior di latte, porcini mushrooms, Italian truffle sauce and chives.

Gosh, we're getting hungry just writing about it.
