During the Christmas period there's one change that we all forget to check. The dreaded Christmas bin collection dates. If you miss one, you can end up stuck with all that wrapping paper recycling and festive food scraps for weeks- so don't forget to write the changes down.
This year, the bin collections in the week leading up to Christmas are one day earlier and there are no changes between Christmas and New Year, except on Saturday 1 January, when the collection will take place one day later than usual.
As usual, the council advise you to put the bins out at 6.30am on your collection day and then bring in again as soon as possible after it has been emptied.

The full changes to the 2021 Christmas Bin Collection Calendar are as followed:
Monday 20 December- one day early on Sunday 19 December
Tuesday 21 December - one day early on Monday 20 December
Wednesday 22 December - one day early on Tuesday 21 December
Thursday 23 December - one day early Wednesday 22 December
Friday 24 December - one day early Thursday 23 December
Saturday 25 December - one day early Friday 24 December
Sunday 26 December - no collections
Monday 27 December - no change to collection days
Tuesday 28 December - no change to collection days
Wednesday 29 December - no change to collection days
Thursday 30 December - no change to collection days
Friday 31 December - no change to collection days
Saturday 1 January - one day late on Sunday 2 January
Sunday 2 January - see above
Monday 3 January - back to usual timetable

Household Waste and Recycling Centres are only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, so you can take your large recycling items between these days.
To find out when your usual bin day is, you can visit the Leeds Government website. From here, simply input your postcode and the system will tell you when your black and green bins are due to be collected, as well as other useful information like how to order a new wheelie bin.

Leeds Christmas Markets is returning to the city centre in just two months' time and some major plans and changes have been announced.

Leeds Christmas Markets are also ringing in the new season with a jam-packed video posted to social media announcing all the current plans and changes for its 2026 schedule.
This year, outdoor events company Thor’s Tipi are stepping up as the all-new operators of this Christmastime spectacular and are organising a celebration where 'even if you’re not from Yorkshire, you’re going to leave being from Yorkshire'.

Although Leeds locals already know that Yorkshire is 'God's Own Country', the Leeds Christmas Markets team are making sure that the county is represented through its food, drinks and wider stalls.
In a video uploaded to its social accounts, foodie expert and Little Bao Boy Founder James 'Jimmy Chews' Ooi was given the honour of revealing all these exciting plans.
Informing everyone that "You best come hungry", Ooi noted that some of the phenomenal vendors taking part include La Grassa and The Savvy Baker.
Real Markets Yorkshire and Stump Cross Caverns are also getting into the Christmas spirit and setting up their own stalls at Leeds City Square this November.

Rated restaurants and bars are contributing to the festive frenzy too, like Cabaret Thursdays at Italian restaurant Bibi's and beer garden destination Green Room are hosting singalongs at Leeds Christmas Markets.
There will be plenty of activities for families happening all around the unofficial capital of West Yorkshire like elf-themed scavenger hunts, various elves on various shelves and lots of live music.
If it wasn't apparent already, in the words of Jimmy Chews himself, there's about to be "So much Christmas that Mariah Carey is going to look like the Grinch".
