According to a new survey, the Yorkshire accent has been crowned the worst in the whole world.
A new study has unveiled the humble Yorkshire accent to be the worst in the entire world. Very dramatic, we know.
We know what you’re thinking, ‘what accent?’ and well, the study was carried out on Americans so the difference between a Leeds accent and a Hull accent was simply not considered.
The Highland Titles, a company that offers individuals the opportunity to legally purchase a souvenir plot of land in the Scottish Highland, asked 1,000 Americans about their perceptions of different accents and their usage of subtitles.
Yorkshire was named 8th least attractive accent in the world, with New York, Boston and American Midwest taking the top spots.
Rather surprisingly, the Brummie accent was named 8th most attractive accent with Australian, Scottish and London taking the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots. We blame Cillian Murphy and The Peaky Blinders to be honest.
The list of least attractive accents is as follows:
- New York
- Boston
- American Midwestern
- Canadian
- American Southern
- Spanish
- German
- Yorkshire
The most attractive accents is as follows:
- Australian
- Scottish
- London
- Irish
- French
- Italian
- Welsh
- Brummie
Science shows that attractiveness is linked to our voices, which might not be good news for New Yorkers, as their accent ranked as the least attractive.
It’s not all bad news though, as the Yorkshire accent was infact named the most sophisticated with the London accent in 2nd. The participants overwhelmingly agreed that British accents sound the most intelligent, and we have to say that we agree.
