Love the outdoors? Then this is the job for you.
If you’re a proper outdoorsy person who just can’t get enough of the Yorkshire countryside, then you’re going to want to keep reading.
And that’s because one of Britain’s best national parks, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, are on the lookout for a brand new ranger who will be in charge of protecting hundreds of miles of beautiful unprotected land. And a whole lot of sheep.
The new ranger will be based in Swaledale and will maintain rights of way while helping landowners and creating opportunities for the public to enjoy the great outdoors.
Matt Neale, area manager of the Northern Dales, told the BBC: “It’s not for everybody. It sounds romantic but last winter was very wet
“It can be pretty difficult. One of the essential criteria is someone who can cope with the physical elements and have the resilience to work outside in bad weather.
“You can set off on a nice day and then be facing wet or snow by the end.”
The job description is as follows: “This is an exciting opportunity, working primarily in Swaledale, focusing on the maintenance of the public rights of way network, other access routes, open access areas and estate management for the Authority.
“You will liaise with landowners and farmers and carry out high quality practical work, enhancing public access, and engaging with users and communities.
“As an integral part of the ranger service, you will be undertaking practical work alone or as part of a team, managing and supervising contractors and volunteers, and co-ordinating and delivering practical work, as required.”
If this job seems like a bit of you, then you can apply here on the Yorkshire Dales website. Applications close on Wednesday 20 November.
