A look inside the trendy Catalonian café and bar coming to Sheffield

There's a brand-new Catalonian-inspired café and bar venue coming to Sheffield where you can grab a coffee or a pint at the same time.

This is Cats, a combined café and bar space that's making its way to Broomhill and offering anyone visiting the chance to experience a taste of Spain without having to fork out the cost of a plane ticket.

Catalonia is famous for many notable like impressive architecture such as La Sagrada Familia, legendary performers like Rosalía and phenomenal all-day hospitality which this new site is hoping to emulate.

Although we might not be able to judge their skills as vocalists, when it comes to construction and deconstruction they're excelling, as can be seen in their renovation progress documented across their socials.

Taking shape in the former Nibbles Pizza site on Ashdell Road, although you might not be able to order a 12 inch meat feast anymore, Cats will be offering a range of interesting wines, beers and bar snacks.

In newly-released rendered images, a fitting wine-red colour has been used throughout both interior and exterior, the latter having a small seating adjacent to the front door.

Inside, you'll find lightbulbs dotted around the almost-180 degree-spanning window seating with small warm lights to set the mood.

Directly opposite will be the bar with a muted-concrete countertop that has a coffee machine on one end and draught beers on the other - the ultimate dream.

There's even a cellar area downstairs with banquette seating and those familiar tabletop lamps which help keep the atmosphere as relaxed and intimate as intended.

As the name may suggest, this place isn't exclusively for feline lovers as this Sheffield venue is promising to be a dog-friendly site stocking 'Cats' branded dog treats and water bowls.

Of course, this won't be exactly how this café and bar space will end up looking like as working with an older may pose some potential challenges, but these plans shouldn't differ too much.

We can't wait to get our claws on a glass of vino.

Thieves have broken into a beloved Sheffield bar and restaurant and caused expensive damage - just to make off with some joints of beef.

Kapital, a huge European beer hall that opened in the city centre last year, said that the vandals in question stole four beef joints that were meant to be for their Father's Day service.

Sharing the news with followers, the business wrote: "Now, we know our Sunday roasts are really good…

"But smashing a massive window and crawling through it at 5am? We’re flattered, but come on FFS."

Kapital has shared photos of the damage inflicted in the incident, showing a joint of beef lying on a bed of broken glass.

The break-in happened overnight on Thursday, with staff arriving on Friday to find that the huge window had been smashed in.

The joints of beef stolen had been bought in especially for a fully-booked Father's Day service this weekend.

Kapital said: "It’s not even the beef we’re most bothered about. It’s the smashed window. The repairs. The clean-up. The hassle. We’ve spent all week grafting to get ready for Father’s Day and now we’re dealing with this instead…

"A tough one to swallow for any independent business, ahead of one of the busiest days of the year."

In their full statement, they wrote: "Someone stole our beef. Woke up this morning to find someone had smashed their way into Kapital overnight and helped themselves to four joints of beef we’d bought in for our fully booked Father’s Day service

"Now, we know our Sunday roasts are really good… But smashing a massive window and crawling through it at 5am? We’re flattered, but come on FFS.

"Maybe a disgruntled Dad who couldn’t get a table for Father’s Day. Maybe not. We’ll probably never know.

"It’s not even the beef we’re most bothered about.

"It’s the smashed window. The repairs. The clean-up. The hassle. We’ve spent all week grafting to get ready for Father’s Day and now we’re dealing with this instead… A tough one to swallow for any independent business, ahead of one of the busiest days of the year.

"Anyway, we’re open as normal today. Just with a slightly more boarded-up aesthetic than usual.

"And if you’re joining us for Father’s Day on Sunday, don’t stress. Replacement joints are en-route and every booking will be looked after exactly as planned .

"Massive thanks to our team, our suppliers and everyone who’s helped us get things sorted at short notice. Properly appreciated.

"If you happen to spot someone wandering around Sheffield with a suspicious amount of roast beef, give us a shout.

"And if you’re heading out for a pint after work tonight, pop in and make it at ours, we’d appreciate the company."

Viral Manchester bakery Gooey is opening in Sheffield this summer

Manchester’s beloved bakery and brunch spot Gooey is officially coming to Sheffield.

The bakery is famed for its chunky freshly-baked cookies, its pillow-soft doughnuts, and its sticky, icing-topped cinnamon rolls, as well as viral brunch dishes.

If you’ve spent any amount of time scrolling through social media over the last few years, chances are you’ve seen Gooey’s famous creations pop up on your feed.

From chunky cookies that barely fit in your hand to those picture-perfect egg sandos, the Manchester-born brand has become a go-to for sweet treats and brunch lovers alike.

Right now, Gooey operates two cafés in Manchester city centre, as well as three smaller kiosks dotted around the city for anyone needing a quick sugar fix on the go. There’s also a kiosk over in Liverpool, but the new Meadowhall opening marks another exciting step in the brand’s expansion outside its home city.

The first signs of the move appeared over the weekend, when Gooey’s unmistakable branding was spotted inside the shopping centre. Signage at the unit revealed that shoppers can expect all the favourites, including cookies, doughnuts, coffee, and matcha drinks.

The best part? There's not too long to wait.

The new Gooey Meadowhall site is set to open in summer 2026, meaning Sheffield residents will soon be able to get their hands on the bakery’s viral bakes without making the trip over the Pennines.

You’ll find the new store on the first floor of Meadowhall, above Mango and right next to Fraser Hart.

Safe to say, Sheffield’s bakery game is about to get a serious upgrade. We'll keep you updated with an opening date as and when we find out.
