Home Bargains to close all stores over Christmas so staff can spend time with loved ones

More than 22,000 staff will be treated to extra time off for “all their hard work”

Home Bargains has announced it will be closing all of its UK stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day so that its staff can spend some much-deserved time off over the festive period.

The store usually shuts at around 8 pm on weekdays and Saturdays, with Sunday trading running up until 4 pm – however, this year things will be different with earlier closing times floated on some important festive days.

As well as closing the store to give their teams a day off on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, the retailer has also announced it will shut its doors early on Christmas Eve.

It says this is to thank its staff for all their hard work and to give workers more time with their friends and family this year over the Christmas period.

A spokesperson said: “We recognise how incredibly hard all of our colleagues have worked over the last year, to continue to serve the local communities that rely on them so much.

“In light of this, we felt it was only right to reward store teams by taking the decision to close all of our stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and also close stores early at 5pm on Christmas Eve.

“As a family-run business we know the importance of being together at Christmas with those we care about most, now more than ever, and this is our way of saying thank you to all of our colleagues for their continued hard work and dedication.”

The move by the popular budget retailer follows others, such as M&S, who have already revealed plans to close on Boxing Day this year to give staff a rest.

However, according to reports in The Mirror this isn’t the first time Home Bargains has closed for the holidays – reportedly also giving staff the day off in 2019 and 2020.
