An entire exhibition dedicated to Miffy is opening in Leeds this week

In celebration of the adorable character’s 70th birthday, Leeds City Museum welcomes you to an exhibition dedicated to Miffy.

Gosh, she looks good for her age doesn't she?

The beloved and incredibly cute illustrated character created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna invites visitors to the Leeds City Museum to explore Miffy’s world, an experience for both children and adults alike.

The interactive exhibition will bring Miffy to life through colourful activities and displays that will encourage guests to fully immerse themselves in a different world.

It will also look at different aspects of Dick Bruna’s artwork and design philosophy through his huge collection of 124 picture books, posters, logos, book covers and house styles for charities.

The Leeds City Museum exhibition will run open this Friday 7 February and will run until Sunday 7 September 2025.

The best part? It's completely free to attend.

To kickstart Miffy’s residency at the museum, a family fun day will take place on Saturday 8 February from 11am to 3pm.

Guests will be able to meet Miffy herself and drop into numerous craft sessions taking place on the day before roaming around the brand new exhibition.

Miffy was “born” on 21 June 1955, when Dutch artist Dick Bruna first drew the character to entertain his young son whilst on a rainy seaside holiday in Holland.

The series of picture books which followed used simple illustrations and rhyming text to explore the universal experiences of childhood, immediately earning Bruna international critical acclaim as an illustrator and artist.

The iconic Leeds attraction is back for its 32nd year, and it’s set to get everyone feeling all loved-up.

The UK's best known Valentine's event is returning for the half term holidays, taking place from Friday 14 February to Sunday 23 February 2025.

We’re talking a whopping 360° spinning ride The Superstar, the 40m-high Booster Ride, huge swinging pendulum The Devil Rock, dodgems, and, of course, Leeds’ Wheel of Light.

The fair will be taking place in Victoria Gardens, on Cookridge Street and at Millennium Square.

New survey reveals that one in three shoppers admits to stealing at self-checkouts

New research has revealed that almost 40% of UK shoppers have failed to scan at least one item when using self-checkouts.

Self-checkouts started to become popular in the UK in the 1990s, and since then have evolved to meet consumer demands and solve the problem of queueing, especially taking on a life of their own in supermarkets from the 2010s onwards… but now, some exclusive new research for The Grocer has revealed that could be causing more hassle than they’re worth.

A national survey of more than 1,000 shoppers found that only 63% said they ‘never’ failed to scan an item when using self-checkouts, which leaves almost two in five who do so at least occasionally.

A third (32%) also admitted to having weighed loose items incorrectly, while 38% said they had put through an incorrect loose item.

Experts say these statistics show that “a new breed of shoplifter” has been created.

“You’re creating opportunities for people who otherwise wouldn’t even think about shoplifting,” commented Matt Hopkins, who is an associate professor in criminology at the University of Leicester,

When it comes to the biggest culprits of failing to scan items at self-checkouts, the survey revealed that the under 35 age group, and men overall, came out as the most common, but it’s unclear whether this could be blamed on system error, missing barcodes, or rushing shoppers, instead of being intentional.

Surprisingly though, despite public perception and a recent headline-grabbing move by supermarket chain Booths to remove self-service checkouts from all but a select few of its busiest stores, this new research also shows that shoppers actually prefer to use self-checkouts (54.2%), over staffed checkouts (29.8%).

“In a short space of time, the self-checkout option has gone from zero to an accepted norm – and now to an active preference for many,” commented Lucia Juliano, the UK head of research and client success at Harris Interactive.

The speed and relative freedom provided by self-checkouts were the main advantages of using them, according to shoppers, with 56% choosing to use them because they’re faster.

52% cited the fact that self-checkouts allow them to ‘go at [their] own pace’.

Juliano did, however, comment that shoppers’ preference for self-checkouts may only be a reality “when there are no tech issues during the transaction”, which is said to be the “biggest bugbear by far” according to the survey.

“Retailers need to ensure the tech is spotless, the space is ample and staff are quick to intervene when needed,” Juliano concluded.

Leeds First Direct Arena has celebrated its landmark 1000th show this year

Incredible Leeds city centre music and entertainment venue, First Direct Arena, celebrated its 1000th show last Sunday.

First Direct Arena first opened in 2013 and is known for bringing in huge stars of live entertainment from across the globe.

This West Yorkshire venue holds up to 12,000 concertgoers and kicked things off eight years ago with a groundbreaking performance from none other than Elton John.

This arena has seen some A-Listers in its time and this remarkable occasion called for two huge stars as Craig David and Lemar shared the incredible honour of hosting the venue’s 1000th gig.

Leeds’ are true music lovers and this achievement highlights that with names like Kylie, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and more playing to our wonderful Yorkshire crowds.

In 2025, these leading live music greats show no signs of slowing down either as Tom Grennan announced his biggest tour ever which also stops off at this impressive gig hot spot this year.

Get ready to laugh your socks off because the UK's top comedy venue, The Glee, is coming to Leeds this spring.

If you like a good giggle then you're going to love this news because the award-winning independent comedy club, The Glee, is opening up in Leeds city centre.

The Glee will be opening its sixth UK venue slap bang in the city centre on Albion Street, and will offer a fantastic weekly programme of comedy, live music and entertainment.

Established a whopping 30 years ago, The Glee is the leading operator of comedy venues in the UK.

It first opened its doors in 1994 in a purpose-built venue outside of London and has since become renowned for quality live comedy hosting huge names such as Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre, Jo Brand, Lee Evans, Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall.

The Glee has also hosted Adele and Mumford & Sons as musical performers. Now those are some big names.

The new 400 capacity Leeds venue will offer a beautifully designed purpose-built interior with reserved theatre-style seating with great stage views, along with excellent lighting and acoustics to create a the ultimate entertainment experience.

There will be an extensive food and drink menu on offer including bar classics such as burgers, nachos, and sourdough pizzas, which can all be washed down with cocktail pitchers, beer buckets and a selection of wines.

More than three million UK workers will be getting a ‘significant’ pay rise this April

More than three million workers across the UK are set to receive a ‘significant pay boost’ from April, the Government has announced.

Announced as part of last year’s Budget, and in a bid to “put thousands of pounds back in the pockets of working people every year”, the Government has now laid legislation this week that confirms a new National Living Wage of £12.21 per hour, and a new National Minimum Wage of £10 per hour from April onwards.

Ministers say the 6.7% increase to the National Living Wage – which will be worth £1,400 a year for an eligible full-time worker – is a “significant step” towards delivering the manifesto commitment to deliver a “genuine” living wage.

On top of this, the National Minimum Wage for 18-20-year-olds is also set to go up by a record increase of £1.40 an hour, which means full-time younger workers eligible for the rate will see their pay boosted by £2,500 a year.

This is the first time the National Living Wage has taken into account the cost of living and inflation .

With the Government’s end goal being to create a single adult wage rate, this increase to both the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage will put an end to age-based wage discrimination, meaning employers can no longer be justified in paying younger workers less for doing the same job as their older colleagues.

The minimum hourly wage for an apprentice is also set to be boosted this year, with an 18-year-old apprentice seeing their minimum hourly pay increase by 18% to £7.55 an hour.  

As a result of all of these changes, a further four million workers also could benefit from the positive spill-over impacts of the rate increases.

An impact assessment published earlier this week shows that these changes will put around £1.8 billion into the pockets of workers over the next six years, according to the Government.

“The increased income is set to boost financial stability for millions of families and improve spending power which will drive economic growth,” the Government claims.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves commented: “This Government promised a genuine living wage for working people that will support people with the cost of living, creating a workforce that is fit and ready to help us deliver number one mission to growth the economy.

“This pay boost for millions of workers is a significant step towards delivering on that promise.”

Tim Minchin is returning to First Direct Arena for the first time in FOUR years

Incomparable singer-songwriter and all round genius Tim Minchin is making his grand return to First Direct Arena later this year.

Minchin, who started out as a Perth cabaret pianist, has now built up one of the most impressive careers in entertainment history, making a stop at Leeds to show Yorkshire what he’s all about.

This evening requires your full attention because if you switch off for a single second you could find yourself in the middle of a completely different song.

That’s because this Australian all-rounder’s music roster varies from comedy classics to Christmas tear jerkers too, it’s guaranteed to be a cracking night.

He was launched into the public eye back in 2005 when he hit TV screens thanks to his show ‘Darkside’ and that very same year received praise after a performance at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

NoNo is the latest venture from Barrique Fine Wines, a respected West Yorkshire-based wine merchant.

Production crews are said to have cancelled at least one day of filming this week following news cutbacks and a reduced schedule of programming.

The beloved British soaps have been up against it for some time now, with viewing figures and costs struggling at both ends of the spectrum, and the latest development doesn’t spell great news for the cast and crew, not to mention audiences.

According to Digital Spy, regularly scheduled filming was due to take place in Manchester and Leeds on Tuesday, 5 February, with each show shooting roughly six to eight weeks in advance of storylines.

However, following reports of more hits to the industry and the latest steps ITV, specifically, which will see fewer episodes of both Corrie and Emmerdale air each week, film crews are said to have been stood down as they await further updates.

Announcing steps at the start of February, ITV confirmed that Coronation Street and Emmerdale are to see their content cut by an hour a week between them from next year.

While Corrie currently broadcasts three hour-long episodes per week and Emmerdale four half-hour episodes plus one full-hour instalment, the new slate will see both soaps dial back to only air 30-minute episodes, with a so-called ‘soaps power hour’ every both shows at 8pm and 8:30pm.

Put in simplest terms, viewers will have half an hour less of their regular soaps to watch overall each week but with episodes airing at more regular intervals, which the network claims is “viewer-led” and will allow fans to enjoy the shows “in the most digestible way.”

Metro writer Duncan Lindsay has labelled the decision as a tough one to make but something that could ultimately “save” the two long-standing soap operas in the long run.

On the other hand, this obviously means a big chunk of work being lost for those working on sets across the board, with ITV having already taken steps to cut costs ever since the pandemic, and the UK’s viewing public has given mixed reactions, to say the least.

With an increased focus on streaming and making both shows more accessible, episodes will continue to be released from 7am on ITVX before airing on live telly later that evening.

Responding to the changes, the performing arts union Equity admitted that the steps do cause “further cause for concern”, especially following the cancellation of other soaps like Doctors and Hollyoaks also having recently seen its schedule adjusted.

Meanwhile, there still remains a loyal and passionate viewership for both iconic UK shows and Corrie, in particular, notched yet another award for best soap/continuing drama at the 2025 Broadcast Awards.

Cast and crews are understood to have paused filming just for the day to address the situation and inform everyone working on the Coronation Street and Weatherfield sets, and we sincerely hope they’re back up and running as per usual.

The Ticketmaster 2025 awards have been revealed, and one of our very own took home a coveted title.

Live music and experiences are a big part of our lives, and we all have our favourite acts we've seen and venues we've visited over the years.

And the Ticketmaster awards lets you have your say to vote for your favourites, from Act of The Year and Comedian Of The Year to Sporting Event Of The Year and Attraction Of The Year.

But the one we're most interested in, is Small Venue Of The Year which was awarded to our very own Leeds Student Union.

And it comes as no surprise, it's a fantastic venue which hosts brilliant gigs in an brilliantly intimate setting.

Speaking of the news, Leeds Union said: "We're delighted to announce that we have won Small Venue Of The Year at the @ticketmasteruk Awards 2025!

"A big thanks to our hardworking team for making this possible, and what a way to kick off the year!"

Also in the running for the award was SWX Bristol, Hackney Church and Glasgow Student Union.

So that's it for small venue, but what about large? Well that one went to our northern neighbours over in Manchester as the Co-op Live took the biscuit.

After a turbulent opening, the Co-op Live is now the UK's largest entertainment venue and has hosted some incredible events over the past 6 months.

Tesco is set to trial personalised Clubcard prices giving shoppers even cheaper offers

Tesco is trialling personalised Clubcard offers which give customers tailored prices based on their purchases.

The supermarket ‘s Clubcard loyalty scheme has more than 20 million people signed-up nationwide, making it one of the most popular of its kind on the market, by far – but over the coming weeks, prices could begin to get cheaper for some than they already are as part of the new ‘Your Clubcard Prices’ scheme being trialled.

The scheme, which is being launched nationwide to a select group of people, will see shoppers sent new personalised offers every Wednesday, on top of all other existing deals.

These will be sent via the Tesco Clubcard app, and added automatically at the checkout.

At this moment in time, it’s believed to be unclear how many people are a part of the trial, and also how long the trial will last for.

What we do know, however, is that customers will be able to use their personalised offers multiple times for a total of seven days in larger Tesco stores, but at present, they unfortunately can’t be used in Express locations.

“We are constantly looking for ways to make Clubcard work harder for our customers,” a Tesco spokesperson explained.

“We are currently offering Your Clubcard Prices to a trial group of our Clubcard members, giving them offers on products they regularly buy at Tesco, in addition to the thousands of Clubcard Prices available to all Clubcard members each week.”

The news that Tesco is trialling personalised Clubcard offers comes after the retailer was advised by leading consumer watchdog, Which?, last February to make prices clearer for customers.

It also comes after the UK’s cheapest supermarket of 2024 has was revealed.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and one company is offering singles the chance to honour their ex in a fitting way.

Bavette Bistro has scooped a coveted Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide after opening just last February.

The highly anticipated Michelin awards were hosted in Glasgow last night, and whilst we didn't take home a star we did take home a just-as-esteemed Bib Gourmand.

Bavette in Horsforth opened last February, and it has really been collecting accolades and awards ever since, but this time it is the biggie.

This distinction is the guide's way of recognising restaurants that offer good food at a great price and share the same spirit of generosity and a commitment to quality cooking.

Run with lovely Sandy and Clément at the helm, Bavette offers brilliant french cookery at reasonable prices alongside a carefully curated drinks menu and above all else, unbeatable service by wonderful people.

Two bars in Leeds have been named in the UK's Top 50 Cocktail Bars

Last night, the best bars in the UK were named in the prestigious Top 50 Cocktail Bars list - and it was a great night for Leeds.

Two of our city's very best cocktail bars were crowned and honoured among the very best in the cocktail industry.

The prestigious Top 50 Cocktail Bars list had already named those who had placed on this year's list, but it was only in a glittering ceremony last night that the bars learned where they'd ranked.

Let's just say Leeds has a lot to be proud of for another year.

Below Stairs, the cosy speakeasy on South Parade, has leapt up the list into a very respectable 15th place (up from 27 last year).

This much-loved Leeds bar is famed for its creative cocktails - split on the menu into Sugar, Salt, Acid and Fat - which has previously had interactive cocktails like one where you can literally paint colours into your drink with a miniature edible easel.

And also placing in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars for Leeds was the renowned Tabula Rasa, which has ranked in 27th place.

This beautiful bar on Eastgate (which happens to be dangerously close to The Hoot office...) is a laid-back aperitivo and cocktail bar where the atmosphere is chill but the drinks are seriously good.

Also shining for Yorkshire were a couple of bars over in Sheffield, naturally.

Public is one of the UK’s smallest bars inside a former (you guessed it) public toilet - but don't let that put you off.

There’s a considered menu with your classic martinis and negronis, plus some more unusual combinations, and it's made it onto the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list in 39th place.

Then The Pearl at Park Hill, sister site to the beautiful natural wine bar Bench, was named at number 44.

This bar, only 18 months old, is known for its menu that splits into Day, Dusk and Dawn, plus a load of classic drinks, along with craft beer, natural wines, innovative bar snacks and small plates.

Leeds Festival make the biggest change to its camping sites in UK festival history

Reading and Leeds Festival have announced details of a historic overhaul to its camping offering.

You know we are already buzzing for this years Leeds Festival to erupt at Bramham Park over August Bank Holiday weekend.

But for this edition of the iconic festival, there's going to be some pretty monumental changes...

The changes mark the biggest site change the festival has seen in its 55 year history as well as biggest shake-up that UK festival camping has ever seen.

So, what's all the fuss about then?

Introduced this week camping at Reading and Leeds will be made up of five distinct campsites:

The Fields

"Open to anyone, this is the place for those looking for a lively atmosphere, great vibes and the ability to tailor the experience once arrived, between closer to the arenas or chilled further away."

The Garden

"Expanding what was Quiet Camp, this is the place for those looking for a more relaxed camping experience with limited noise after 1am."

The Meadow

"Building on what was Eco Camp, this is the space for those looking for that festival camping experience whilst reducing their impact on the environment."

The Grove

"A warm and welcoming space for festival-goers who want to camp with a supportive, like-minded community. The Grove is all about inclusivity, respect, and creating a positive environment where everyone can relax and be themselves. In partnership with Safer Spaces Now CIC, this camp is supported by gender-inclusive teams who are dedicated to creating a safer environment for all."

The Valley

"A dedicated campsite for those coming to the festival on their own or as a pair. Suited for those looking for some ‘me time’ during the festival and for those knowing that everyone also in the campsite is in the same boat, it’s a great chance to meet like-minded festival goers and build new memories in the spirit of the festival."

Everyone with tickets will automatically be booked a spot in The Fields, but access to other areas can be booked free via Ticketmaster.

Sam Fender to play massive outdoor gig in Manchester this summer

Sam Fender is set to play a massive outdoor gig at Wythenshawe Park this summer following the release of his next album.

The North Shields singer-songwriter has undeniably made a name for himself since bursting into the mainstream back in 2019 with the success of his debut album , followed the even more-successful release of his second, and so-called ‘coming of age’ record, Seventeen Going Under, in 2021, as well as several memorable festival headline slots and appearances, and arena and stadium shows.

Only recently, Fender blew the roof off Leeds' First Direct Arena, playing to thousands of adoring fans and cementing his place as one of the greatest live acts of the moment.

But now, with his forthcoming third studio album, People Watching, merely days away from release on 21 February, it’s been announced that he’ll headline Wythenshawe Park this summer.

The 30-year-old indie rocker and his band will take to the stage at what is one of Manchester's most increasingly-popular outdoor venues in August.

Fender fans will get to sing along to the band’s most well-known hits, from title tracks ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ and ‘Seventeen Going Under’, to everything in between, as well as here the tracks from the upcoming People Watching album – which is being billed as “a collection of colourful stories and observations of everyday characters living their everyday, but often extraordinary, lives”.

Sam is currently gearing up for a sold-out tour of Europe in March, ahead of a US tour in the spring, and then a trio of sold-out shows at his boyhood football club’s stadium, Newcastle’s St James’ Park, as well as his biggest headline show to date at the London Stadium.

Support at Wythenshawe Park will come from acclaimed neo soul singer, Olivia Dean – with further supports to be announced soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Sam Fender will play Wythenshawe Park on Saturday 16 August 2025.

Keen to get yourself some tickets then? Fans are advised to register or pre-order the album for the opportunity to get their hands on pre-sale tickets, with the registration period for this open now until Monday 17 February at 10am.

The pre-sale itself starts on Tuesday 18 February at 11am and concludes the following day on (Wednesday 19 February) at 10am.

All remaining tickets will then go on general sale on Friday 21 February at 10am, the same as the album release date.

Acclaimed chef returns to the helm of celebrated Leeds restaurant

Elizabeth Cottam is returning to The Owl and steering it in a new direction.

First established in Leeds Kirkgate Market back in 2019, The Owl was Elizabeth's second restaurant venture in the city, following the launch of fine dining venue Home in 2017.

The Owl relocated to its current home in Mustard Wharf in 2022, where it boasts stunning relaxed atmosphere with beautiful waterside views.

Following the unfortunate closure of Home last, Elizabeth is now turning her attention back to The Owl bringing it to its former glory days.

The Owl has launched several new menus including a new ‘Guinea Pig’ night, alongside a new main menu to give customers a taste of something different.

Guests will now be able to choose from a two, three or seven course option, accompanied by an extensive wine and cocktail list.

Elizabeth said: “When Home closed, many people asked me what was next. The one thing I knew was that whatever I did next, it would be centered around pared-back, soulful cooking, the kind of food that makes me really happy.

“This year we're placing ingredients and accessible dining at the heart of everything we're doing at The Owl, but that doesn't mean that our creativity is taking a back seat. The restaurant landscape has definitely evolved, but it hasn't completely changed either. Our menus reflect this evolution, offering a way to enjoy great cooking, quality ingredients, and vibrant flavours every day - not just for special occasions.

“Our Guinea Pig nights are a great way to test new dishes, but it’s also about connecting with our wonderful regular guests and having a lot of fun. Inside Green Room as beloved Leeds bar reopens with new live music basement

The hibernation is over and the time has finally come to welcome Green Room back to Leeds - now newly-expanded and better than ever before.

The beloved city centre venue, famed especially for its huge rooftop terrace, has unveiled a new look after expanding into the building next door.

Green Room 2.0 features a brand-new basement space with live music and tequila cocktails, set to 'redefine what Leeds' nightlife can be'.

By day, there'll be bottomless brunches (brunch tacos, huevos rancheros, bottomless fizz, beers, spritzes, spicy mango margaritas and passionfruit coolers) served up alongside a live band.

And as the hours while by, the new Green Room basement space will transform into a late-night club with live music and DJs until the early hours.

Events in this brand-new space will include open mic nights, burlesque shows, comedy and loads more.

Resident food legends Bastard's Bistro are delivering a new brunch and lunch menu, served until 4pm every day including a bottomless brunch and Sunday roasts at weekends, with local independent pop-ups on the terrace in the evenings.

There's a bigger bar and a spacious new bar area, and that legendary rooftop terrace has been given a boost with a roofed area and connection straight to the new loos.

Speaking ahead of the reopening, owner Will Habergham said ‘Green Room has always been about bringing people together, and with this expansion, we’re taking that to the next level.

Popular burger chain set to open second Leeds site on Boar Lane

Famed for its outrageous flavours and stacked patties, Fat Hippo is already a local favourite over in Headingley.

And now, another hippo could be coming to town as planning permission has been submitted for another site on Boar Lane.

Fat Hippo Group has applied to take over part of a grade II-listed building at 23 Boar Lane and turn it into a restaurant.

They've applied to convert the site, making alterations to the empty ground floor and basement near Leeds train station.

Leeds City Council will now consider the planning application which is part of the City Centre Conservation Area.

The restaurant is famous for its signature PB& double J burgers, which combine all the comfort of your favourite childhood sandwich with two big, beefy patties encased with chunky peanut butter, American cheese, bacon jam and smoked chilli jello in a brioche bun.

Other must-tries include a ‘Hangover III’ burger with buttermilk chicken, smoked bacon and American cheese with pickles, ranch and BBQ sauce, and a monstrous ‘4×4’ burger which has – you guessed it – a whopping four patties inside, plus Fat Hippo’s signature burger sauce, American cheese and smoked bacon.

The report by John Taylor Architects claims the building's internal works would not harm any historical features of the grade II-listed site.

The report said: "The site is within a sustainable location and appears to be a natural fit for the proposed use....The decorative framed plaster ceiling with decorative cross beams will be fully retained and exposed."

“Internally, the premises will be fitted out to provide a high quality, modern, fit-for-purpose restaurant.”

First look at the new star-studded Netflix drama series filmed in Manchester

A trailer and first look images for a gripping new Netflix drama series filmed in Greater Manchester have been released.

Viewers are being given a teaser of what to expect before it airs next week.

Produced by Charlie Brooker and Annabelle Jones, and based on one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals, Toxic Town tells the story of the people at the heart of the 2009 Corby poisonings, that started decades ago in the 1980s, and focuses on a group of mothers who took on a David and Goliath-style battle for justice.

The four-part series written by acclaimed screenwriter, Jack Thorne, traces the years of the mothers’ fight and watches as a terrible truth comes to the surface.

The cast of the new drama is seriously star-studded, with local Northern actors Jodie Whittaker – best known for Doctor Who and Broadchurch – and Stockport -born Aimee Lou Wood – who is best known for the Netflix series Sex Education, as well as the BBC sitcom Daddy Issues, and is currently starring in the third series of HBO’s The White Lotus – taking on the lead roles.

Robert Carlyle, Brendan Coyle, and Rory Kinnear are some of the other famous names playing pivotal roles in the show, alongside Bridgerton’s Claudia Jessie, Game of Thrones’ and Skins’ Joe Dempsey, and This is England’s Michael Socha.

Show creator Jack Thorne called it the “cast of dreams”.

“I couldn’t believe that we were able to get these people, and that they were prepared to be part of this story,” he commented. “And boy, did they all deliver.”

“Each of them just brought something new that I’d never seen them do before,” Thorne teased ahead of the show’s air. “And when you’re with a cast that’s doing that consistently, it’s so exciting to watch and it’s so beautiful.”

Despite the story being set in the Northamptonshire town of Corby, the majority of this new series was actually filmed in Greater Manchester – primarily in Bolton.

Over the last decade or so, Bolton has developed a ‘Hollywood of the North’ nickname as the town’s centre and wider borough’s historic buildings and architecture, and striking rural landscapes, have become a favourite for production crews looking to replicate other well-known worldwide locations such as London, New York, and even Moscow.

Camera crews for popular TV shows such as Peaky Blinders, Happy Valley, It’s A Sin, Brassic, The Stranger, Fool Me Once, and A Gentleman in Moscow have all rolled into the town in recent times.

Toxic Town lands on streaming platform Netflix on Thursday 27 February.

Daniel Farke urges restraint after 'the best kind of win' as Leeds United boost promotion chances

Daniel Farke is urging fans to not get ahead of themselves following last night's massive win over Sunderland as Leeds gave their prospects of a Premier League return a massive leg up.

Returning to the top of the table after a last-gap 2-1 victory over the North East side, Leeds United now lead the league on 72 points as promotion back to the top flight is looking increasingly likely.

But we all know how football goes, especially in the Championship...

With that in mind, although Farke confessed it was "a great night for everyone connected to Leeds United", he was quick to remind his players, staff and supporters that there's still a lot of work to do.

Speaking after the full-time whistle and when everyone had just about caught their breath back, the 48-year-old said: "These types of wins are the best kind you can have in football for the supporters and the whole group."

Despite being booked for joining in the celebrations and seeming rather puzzled by the decision, the German head coach went on to describe the victory as "priceless points", and "a great night for everyone connected to Leeds United."

However, being fully aware of how fine the margins were and continue to be, he warned everyone to avoid getting carried away, adding: "We haven't won anything yet."

In case you weren't watching for whatever reason, it was a tense home outing against fellow playoff challengers, who took the lead through Wilson Isidor in the first half.

Nevertheless, a brilliant brace came from a somewhat unlikely yet increasingly less surprising source as Pascal Struijk notched his fourth and fifth goal of the season within just over a quarter of an hour - the fans just had to wait agonisingly until the very last quarter or so.

Struijk's stoppage-time winner in the 95th minute understandably sent Elland Road into raptures which, as you can see, have been described as some of the best the league has seen in a while.

As Farke says, there's still a long way to go and Leeds won't want to rely on the bare minimum amount to qualify for the playoffs; with 42 points still up for grabs this campaign and teams on their tail, the next few months are going to be stressful.

The Auto Trader Car Hunt will see 100 miniature cars hidden in different cities every day for 10 days, with the hunt arriving into Leeds on 27 February.

Government reveals plans to fix the UK’s ‘broken’ rail system and deliver reliable services

Plans to fix the ‘broken’ rail system across the UK and deliver reliable services for all have been set out by the Government.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is aiming to ‘rewire Britain’s railways’ with the introduction of its landmark bill unveiled by the Government yesterday (18 February), most notably including the setting up of a powerful passenger watchdog to reform Great British Railways (GBR), give passengers a voice, and hold train operators to account.

The creation of the new watchdog is described as being a ‘once in a generation overhaul’.

Its establishment should bring track and train together, end ‘major failures’, and deliver reliable services for passengers, all while catalysing growth across the country, the DfT assures.

It will also give devolved leaders more of a say on the services that directly impact their towns and cities, and work together to integrate transport , ultimately making it simpler to travel and attracting more people to our railways.

The new independent watchdog will be tasked with ensuring GBR addresses the issues that consistently rank highest in passenger complaints to ensure the public are given clear information when they travel.

Working with the Transport Secretary and GBR, the watchdog will also be given the powers to set clear standards for passengers on things like journey information and assistance, investigate persistent problems, and publish reports on poor service – before referring this to the railway regulator for enforcement action.

The Railways Bill is set to deliver a once in a generation overhaul of Britain's railways.

A public consultation on the plans has also been launched this week, giving the Government a chance to hear Brits’ views on putting an end to ‘outdated and inefficient processes’ which have resulted in poor performance, timetable chaos, and complex fares and ticketing over the years.

“Passengers have put up with broken railways for far too long,” insisted Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander.

“This landmark reform will sweep away decades of failure, creating a Great British Railways passengers can rely on.

“We’re giving passengers a powerful voice with a new watchdog dedicated to addressing their biggest concerns, building railways people can trust, improving our services, and boosting the economy in the process.”

Acclaimed chef to open new Indian restaurant inside The Queens Hotel

Cinnamon Kitchen, the renowned modern Indian restaurant led by Executive Chef Vivek Singh, is set to open its first northern site in Leeds.

The restaurant and bar is launching in partnership with The Queens Hotel and will bring traditional Indian flavours with contemporary techniques to Yorkshire.

Vivek Singh has built up a reputation in the hospitality industry through his five restaurants and regularly appears on popular television programmes such as Saturday Kitchen and Masterchef.

Cinnamon Kitchen Leeds will take its inspiration from historic Indian railway first class waiting rooms, reflecting the site's connection and proximity to Leeds train station.

The beautiful space will feature high ceilings, Art Deco elements, and a striking mural that captures the essence of India’s diverse landscapes.

The menu will take inspiration from the 2,355-mile journey of the Himsagar Express,
a train route that spans 12 Indian states.

Cinnamon Kitchen's signature dishes will include Masala Grilled Salmon, Old Delhi Butter Chicken, and Lamb Roganjosh Shepherd’s Pie.

the heritage of this iconic railway hotel perfectly complements our vision. The
interiors are inspired by some of India’s most beautiful first-class waiting rooms, and

Shepherd’s pie has been named among the classic British dishes that could be ‘extinct’ within the next 10 years.

From a hearty roast dinner on a Sunday, to a slap-up full English breakfast to start the day, classic British dishes have become staples on dinner tables across the nation, all known and loved for their comforting flavours and cultural significance… but apparently, Google searches for ‘shepherd’s pie recipe’ are down 55% in the past year, indicating that less and less people looking to create this traditional dish at home.

So with this in mind, air fryer giants Ninja Kitchen decided to carry out a new study by surveying 2,000 people and studying search trends for popular British dishes to uncover which meals are still loved, and which might be nothing more than a distant memory.

Shockingly, the new study revealed that shepherd’s pie could be facing extinction from early as 2027, with several other favourites dying out within a decade.

Shepherd’s pie takes the fifth spot on the top 10 list, as according to the study, the dish is experiencing a 0.76% weekly decline, and due to the fact only 5% of Brits would name it a ‘favourite’, this classic risks extinction by 2027.

Another shocker on the list has to been the beloved veggie dish cheese and onion pie, which takes the ninth spot thanks to its 0.41% weekly decline in searches.

However, the majority of the other dishes making up the top 10 list tend to be regional delicacies or dishes that are popular within certain dietary preferences, such as Glamorgan sausage – which takes the number one spot, with a 2% weekly search decline – Tatws Pum Munud, a nut roast, and a vegan roast dinner.

57% of the nation would be sad to see British staples fade away, according to the study, but 31% do appreciate the evolution of food trends.

The study also revealed that the growing popularity of takeaway and convenience food is the leading reason why people are moving away from traditional classics such as shepherd’s pie, with nearly half (46%) of respondents citing it as their main reason.

Additionally, 15% reported that the cost of ingredients was too high, while 10% felt that British classics lacked flavour.

Preferred Leeds tram routes revealed as Mass Transit system progresses

A new consultation report has been released in support of a nation-wide Mass Transit network.

The report shows that more than two thirds of people surveyed across the region are supportive of plans to create a tram system initially covering Bradford and Leeds.

The feedback will help the West Yorkshire Combined Authority select its preferred scheme later this year, before consulting on a detailed version of the preferred route in early 2026.

The route consultation for phase one took place last year, and saw 4,845 individuals and organisations have their say on plans for the region’s biggest proposed infrastructure project in decades.

A report now shows more than two thirds of people surveyed in West Yorkshire supported the plans for a line between Leeds and Bradford, while more than three quarters supporting a line from St James’s Hospital to the White Rose.

University of Bradford Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon said: "We wholeheartedly support plans for a clean, quick, reliable mass transit system, particularly one than connects Leeds and Bradford.

“Such a scheme will benefit students, workers, businesses and residents. It will help reduce carbon emissions and congestions, it will kickstart growth and entrepreneurialism and ultimately boost local, regional and national economies."

Whilst no decisions on routes have yet been taken, the route between St James’s Hospital and Leeds city centre supported most by respondents (L1) would run via the First Direct Arena, Leeds Beckett University, Millennium Square, East Parade and Infirmary Street, before heading past City Square and Leeds Rail Station towards Victoria Bridge.

This was then closely followed by the L2 line, running via East Parade and Park Row.

The most supported south Leeds route (L6) would run via Holbeck, Elland Road Stadium and Beeston Ring Road before finishing at the White Rose. This was followed by L7, which would run via Gelderd Road, Lowfield Road, Elland Road Stadium and Old Lane

Comedy to be prescribed instead of antidepressants as part of UK trials

Trials are currently underway to see if comedy could be an alternative to antidepressants as a way to reduce NHS costs.

UK tech company Craic Health has secured important funding for its ‘comedy on prescription’ project that’s aimed at helping the Government work with the comedy industry, communities, and organisations on comedy-based social prescriptions in the hope that they can solve financial struggles within the NHS.

The groundbreaking scheme uses stand-up shows and workshops to help people who are isolated, lonely, and vulnerable.

Craic believes comedy is an ‘untapped opportunity’ to improve health and wellbeing, and has a goal to make comedy easier to access, so that it can help communities experience its mental health and social benefits.

To achieve this, the company has started trialling Comedy-on-Prescription experiences in the UK – starting in London, with the potential for expansion – which includes things like curated comedy panel game show events and workshops, and general stand-up comedy shows at some of the capital’s world-famous venues

“Mental health issues like loneliness, isolation, and stress are more common than ever,” the company explains.

“So much so that it’s projected that by 2030, mental health problems, particularly depression, will be the leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally, [but] in this challenging world, comedy stands out as a universal language that breaks barriers.

“Research shows that comedy and laughter have powerful effects – they bring people together, create positive connections, and make life more enjoyable.”

Craic Health says that social prescribing, of which Comedy-on-Prescription is a part of, is all about inclusivity, which makes it making it suitable for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Its focus is on personalised support, tailored to individual needs and preferences.

This Leeds suburb has been named one of the coolest places to live by The Sunday Times

The newspaper has compiled a list of eleven places it thinks are the coolest places to live in the UK this year.

And one suburb in Leeds has been featured on the list.

Farsley, just six miles west of the city centre, is officially one of the coolest places to live in the UK.

So if you already live there, you can pat yourself on the back and show off to your mates about how cool and hip you really are.

According to the feature, Farsley has "all the cultural catnip that hipster dads can’t get enough of."

"Once a sleepy suburb, this neighbourhood has become the focus for Birkenstock Boston-clad, Radio 6 Music-listening dads."

Sounds like our type of town if you ask us.

It praises micro-brewery Amity Brew Co, claiming that “the terrace is the place to hang out on a sunny day with a pint of Waterpistol Juicy Pale Ale”.

It also mentions The Mill Kitchen as a great spot to get some grub, and performance venue the Old Woollen for its huge range of events.

Other neighbourhoods mentioned were Hoole in Cheshire, Hull in East Yorkshire, Newport in Wales and Newlyn in Cornwall.

Speaking about Hull, the feature said: "The former fruit and veg markets and warehouses lining the city’s old marina are chock-a-block with independents, while its hipsterish dining scene is thronging with exciting openings."

So if you're looking to up your cool factor then get yourself over to Farsley, it's a fantastic suburb with a proper community feel with loads of stuff to do that'll make for a great day out.

Just beware of Birkenstock-wearing dads as you wander around.

This Leeds family farm are hosting a massive Tulip Festival this spring

Farmer Copleys are inviting everyone to basque in fields of tulips this April.

We all know and love Farmer Copleys for its incredible pumpkin patch and seasonal shenanigans.

The festival will include five sections that have been split by 5 metre walkways enabling the best customer interaction in the field.

There'll be two dedicated pick your own areas where an all seasons mix of bulbs have been planted to ensure that visitors have a wide range of tulips to explore, pick from and create the perfect bunch of tulips.

How lovely is that?

There will also be plenty of photo opportunities, fairground rides and a bar to enjoy the view with a tipple or two.

The festival will take place from Saturday 5 to Sunday 27 April 2025, with tickets starting from just £9.

Northern praises 'hero' train conductor after baby experiences medical emergency on board

Northern has shared a touching statement celebrating one of their train conductors, after he stepped in to help a family whose baby was experiencing a medical emergency.

The train operator said that a six-month-old baby, who had a tube training fluid from his brain, had to be rushed to Leeds Children's Hospital for emergency treatment after his tube came loose and started leaking.

But the conductor on board rushed to the aid of tiny Austin and his family, earning him recognition from Northern.

They said that James is 'a hero', and that Austin's mother Jane has now nominated him for a Pride of Britain Award.

Upon discovering the medical emergency, James leapt into action to provide bandages to manage the leak from Austin's brain tube, and offered a foil blanket to keep the tiny tot warm.

Thanks to the quick actions of James and Austin's parents, and the work of staff at Leeds Children's Hospital, Austin is now recovering at home.

Northern said in its statement: "We want to recognize James, one of our conductors, for acting quickly and supporting the parents of six-month old Austin during a medical emergency on board one of our trains.

"In January, Jane was traveling with her partner and son when she discovered a tube draining fluid from Austin’s brain had come loose and started leaking.

"James acted quickly and reassured the couple, provided bandages to manage the leak, and offered a foil blanket to keep Austin warm. Thanks to their quick action in contacting Leeds Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment, Austin is now recovering at home after several procedures.

"Jane reached out to Northern to let us know she had also nominated James for a Pride of Britain Award.

"You're a hero James!"

Three Leeds record stores have been crowned amongst the 'greatest in the world'

According to The Financial Times, some of the very best record stores in the entire world can be found right here in Leeds.

It's safe to say vinyls and record stores are really having their moment recently, and we're absolutely here for it.

UK music fans spent a record-breaking £2.4 billion on recorded music in 2024—the highest total since 2001.

An incredible 6.7 million vinyl albums were sold in the UK last year, marking seventeen consecutive years of annual sales growth and the highest level of vinyl sales in three decades.

So to celebrate its revival, writers at The Financial Times listed their favourite record stores in the world - and three from Leeds made the list.

First up on the list is Jumbo Records, the feature wrote: " An institution – especially for keeping up with live music. You can really get a sense of how important live music is to Jumbo by how many gig listings are on the front page of their site, alongside the expected vinyl releases."

Yep, we absolutely agree.

Next, Vinyl Whistle over in Headingley. The article praised Vinyl Whistle for its range of new and secondhand vinyls, DJ nights and live performances that reflect Leeds' diverse musical history.

Last but not least, Tribe Records on Kirkgate was named a favourite.

The feature said: "This electronic music-focused store has been around in some form or another since the mid-1990s. It’s an absolute mainstay of the dance scene in the north of England."

Leeds really did come up trumps when it came to UK record stores, only just coming behind London with the number of stores mentioned.

Mercury Prize winners English Teacher announce HUGE gig in Leeds this year

Leeds breadwinners English Teacher are embarking on a UK tour with a date set for their hometown.

It has been quite a whirlwind experience for this four-piece Leeds based band recently and now they’re taking their hits on the road to play across the UK.

In September last year, they bagged the Mercury Prize for their landmark debut album ‘This Could Be Texas’, beating the likes of ‘Brat’ by Charli XCX and ‘early twenties’ by Cat Burns.

They kicked off 2025 with a bang too getting a spot on BBC Radio 1’s Sounds of 2025 list ranking at number 5 and performing a rendition of their track ‘Nearly Daffodils’.

The indie rockers have also managed to use their northern charm enough to bag a support act slot for Franz Ferdinand joining them for a one off gig in Glasgow this August.

And finally, the band are nominated for ‘Best Newcomers’ at the BRIT Awards 2025, they’re quite literally making history.

Now English Teacher have made their impact on music critics, they’re set to impress an even tougher crowd, the UK public, who have already grown fond of them.

This won’t be their first time educating a Leeds audience either as the band were billed on the Live at Leeds 2021 lineup with a slot at Brudenell Social Club.

English Teacher’s 2025 UK tour sees them travelling all around the country with stops at Nottingham, London, Newcastle and obviously Leeds.

Set to play songs from their ubiquitous LP, expect to hear favourites such as ‘R&B’, ‘This Could Be Texas’ and of course ‘The World’s Biggest Paving Slab’.

If the Leeds date isn’t you still have another chance to catch them as they’re playing just over the hill in Manchester two days earlier.

Leeds is about to get a whole lot fluffier and it's all thanks to our favourite cheesy team.

It's no surprise that we're The Cheesy Living Co.'s biggest fans.

Whatever they do, and whatever they turn their attention to, turns to absolute gold dust. And we're sure this new venture will be no different.

We've only just gotten over the news that they're opening up a new Cheesy over in Pudsey, but now they're opening up another site in Leeds and it's going to be a little bit different - but still as brilliant, obviously.

Introducing Fold, a focacceria and bakery that will be providing all the bakes for their numerous sites across the city (which will equal to three once their new spot in Pudsey opens its doors).

Beloved bar and dining room Three's a Crowd set to close

Another big blow for the Yorkshire hospitality sector as the much-loved food and drink spot, Three's A Crowd in Leeds, looks to be closing its doors.

The sister site of the first Three's A Crowd restaurant and bar in Harrogate which opened up back in 2019, the second location only came to Leeds city centre back in March 2023.

Sadly, however, as a result of the rising pressures facing everyone in the industry and a cost-of-living crisis continuing to dampen spirits and prevent people from eating out as much as they would like, it looks like the decision has been made to shut things down.

For anyone who's visited or is just passionate about Leeds' dining scene, this is another hard one to take.

While there has been no official update from the business itself directly or on social media as yet, an email shared with staff read as follows:

"It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that we will be closing the pub as of today. I truly appreciate all of your hard work and efforts over the last couple of years, it's been a blast.

"Rising costs and a poor economy [have] led to this decision and [it's] nothing to do with the fantastic service you have delivered to all our guests."

Founder and director John Quinlan went on to assure that all members of the team would receive strong references and be paid in full for their shifts up until this last Sunday (23 Feb) as well as all outstanding holiday pay.

Truly gutting but a relief to hear the employees are being looked after as best they can.

While it still remains unclear whether it will just be Leeds venue closing or whether the original Three's A Crowd restaurant is also under threat, we can only keep our fingers crossed that everyone gets back on their feet as soon as possible.

The Hoot has enjoyed some seriously good stuff from these guys so we sincerely hope it's not goodbye forever.

Having only recently said goodbye to the likes of the only Yorkshire's only Almost Famous outpost and the long-treasured OWT last month, we were hoping for a better start to 2025.

And luckily for us, they're coming to Leeds' First Direct Arena.

It'll be a particularly special show for Sean Conlon who was born in Leeds and grew up in Horsforth, so his homecoming gig at the first direct arena will no doubt be one to remember and one you don't want to miss.

Lots of free walks which cover all things music are happening across Leeds city centre spanning multiple music genres.

Leeds is getting even more musical, as if it wasn’t already, with some free music-themed walks taking place across the city centre.

These events which are run and hosted by musicians, music researchers and overall well-respected individuals who have certainly earned their right to natter about music.

Each ramble is tailored around a key area in Leeds music history from 2000s indie to Leeds’ vibrant club culture, expect some insightful and refreshing musical knowledge.

Leading the very first walk is none other than Kaiser Chiefs’ bassist Simon Rix and ¡Forward, Russia! Guitarist Whiskas.

Titled ‘¡New Yorkshire! Leeds Indie in the Noughties’ and will touch upon Leeds’ huge grip in the 2000s indie scene with references to Sky Larkin and of course, ¡Forward, Russia! Kaiser Chiefs.

Sarah Stathum is leading a very monumental walk on International Women’s Day and the discussion focuses around pivotal Leeds women who have left their mark in music.

Simply labelled ‘Women/ Music/ Leeds’ expect to chat about Star Wars composer Angela Morley, punk rockers Delta Five and Girls At Our Best, who run the world? Girls.

Another standout trail is led by Joe Williams, a Leeds born arts practitioner who’s no stranger to a ramble curating the Leeds Black History Walk every year.

Williams’ walk ‘Black Music in Leeds City Centre’ details the big journey black music has been on to reach our northern ears including visits from American choirs to the very first Carnival.

All these routes cover different areas of our vast city centre which means that all the meeting points vary too.

These events have been put together by Music Local an organisation who help place-based music support systems and infrastructures, tailored to individual music communities.

The first free music walk is taking place on 1 March and run every Saturday onwards with the last meetup happening on 19 April.

Leeds music lovers are in for a treat as two dates have double the fun to offer with 5 April and 8 March hosting two walks each.

Liberty X amongst first round of major acts announced for Leeds Pride Festival 2025

Leeds Pride, one of the city’s most exciting weekends of the year, have announced the first wave of acts performing at the event this summer.

Taking place on Sunday 20 July 2025, chart-topping band Liberty X will be headlining the main stage performing their biggest hits.

Joining them will be The Cartoons and live from the West end, Queenz the show as well as popular dance music artists, Kelly Lorena and Booty Luv.

The details were announced this week at the official Leeds Pride pre-festival campaign launch at Harvey Nichols on Wednesday evening attended by Lord Mayor, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, Emmerdale stars Ash Palmisciano and Natalie Ann Jamieson.

Leeds Pride is sure to be another huge celebration, after smashing records in 2024 with over 80,000 visitors - its biggest attendance to date with over 160 parade entries and support from 238 businesses.

Now in its 19 th year, Leeds Pride is one of the largest free one-day festivals in Yorkshire and is run by a dedicated team who work tirelessly to ensure the event remains completely free for all who wish to attend.

The 2025 festival will be no different, with a full calendar of events including fringe celebrations with two stages of artist performances on Millennium Square and Lower Briggate, a huge parade ad of course the Viaduct Street party.

Thousands of cinema tickets are about to be given away for FREE across the UK

Thousands of cinema tickets are being given away for free all across the UK next month, and you can get your hands on them now.

As part of Escapes – a project supported by the British Film Institute (BFI) and National Lottery funding giving everyone the opportunity to “enjoy the big screen experience” and “discover independent cinema” – tens of thousands of cinema tickets are now up for grabs across the UK for completely free of charge.

The ultimate aim of the Escapes project is to “bring new audiences” to the cinema , whether you’re someone who always prioritises a trip to the cinema, someone who treasures a visit but only on a special occasion, or someone who’s just keen to discover more.

There is a slight catch though… these tickets are only to see one particular film .

But as far as free tickets to cinema go, let’s just say you could do a whole lot worse than taking a trip to see the the new heartwarming drama-comedy The Penguin Lessons on Monday 17 March, before it gets its wider release to the public.

The Penguin Lessons – which is inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who takes up a teaching post in Argentina in 1976 – tells the story of Tom, played by Steve Coogan, who arrives expecting an easy ride, however he quickly finds himself in a divided nation with a class of unteachable students.

After rescuing a penguin from an oil-slicked beach, Tom’s life is turned upside-down, leading to unexpected friendships and profound life lessons.

From the director of the Full Monty and the writer of Philomena, and also featuring a performance from Jonathan Pryce, the film promises to be both “humorous and heartfelt” by combining comedy and drama, and is ideal for film-lovers looking for a story that will bring all the feels this March.

This is the second year Escapes is offering free cinema tickets, after already making a huge impact with more than 65,000 tickets claimed in 2024 alone.

All showings of The Penguin Lessons will be screened with descriptive subtitles.

Escapes is partnering with leading cinema chains, as well as independent venues across the UK throughout 2025.

If a touching comedy-drama about a penguin doesn’t really sound like something up your street though, not to worry, as The Penguin Lesson is only the first film on the lineup in 2025, as Escapes is set to announce a range of other new films to preview all throughout the year.

Everything you need to know about the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Leeds this year

It’s the 26th year of St Patrick’s Day Parade celebrations in Leeds City Centre.

And as a city we sure know how to celebrate.

This year, the beloved St Patrick’s Day parade will take place on Sunday 16 March 2025.

The parade will kickstart at 11am, but throughout the day until 4pm there will be lots of rides, refreshments and plenty of Irish dancing and music over at Millennium Square.

Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the celebrations in Leeds this year for St Patrick’s Day, including the expected road closures.

Millennium Square Celebrations

From 10.30am – 4pm, the stage at Millennium Square will be filled with music and dancing from homegrown talent like Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Sean Harrington and Luke Flear, the Leeds Irish Choir and Tommy K the DJ with Irish dancing from the Joyce O’Donnell and St Aldreds Schools of Dance and Leeds University Union Dancers.

The event itself is completely free of charge, with plenty of opportunities to raise a glass of Guinness or for the little ones to make the most of a day out with rides and refreshment stalls.

This is a community led event co-ordinated by the Leeds St Patricks Day Parade Committee supported by local sponsors, with funding support from Leeds City Council, and the Government of Ireland Emigrant Support Programme.

The parade

The parade will begin on Great George Street and proceed across the city in an easterly direction, turning right onto Albion Street and then turning right onto The Headrow. From here, the parade will proceed in a westerly direction and turn left into Park Row.

The parade will continue in a southerly direction along Park Row and turn left into Boar Lane, continuing in an easterly direction, before turning left into New Market Street and then onto Vicar Lane.

It will continue in a northerly direction along Vicar Lane, before turning left into The Headrow, continuing in a westerly direction, before turning right onto Albion Street. Finally, it will turn left down Great George Street where the parade will come to an end.

Gracie Abrams forced to cancel Leeds show due to severe illness

The pop star was meant to perform at the First Direct Arena tomorrow night but has had to postpone.

Fans of the singer songwriter were left heartbroken on Sunday evening, as Gracie Abrams sadly announced on social media that she has had to cancel two of her UK shows.

Taking to Instagram the I Love You, I'm Sorry singer said in a handwritten note: “Nottingham+Leeds. I hate that I have to write this again so soon. Unfortunately, I am really still struggling with this illness and have been advised that I cannot perform there next two nights. I can't tell you how much this breaks my heart.

"This tour is something I've been dreaming of since the album came out and the shows were played so. far have meant more to me than I can tell you. The moment we have any concrete details about these two shows in your cities, we will be in touch.

Due to artist illness, @gracieabrams has unfortunately postponed her upcoming show at @fdarena.

Fans are advised to keep hold of their tickets - a new date will be announced as soon as possible.

Train fares in England have risen by 4.6% despite unreliability of services

Rail fares across England and Wales have now risen by 4.6%, even despite the continued unreliability of services.

Less than two weeks after plans to fix the ‘broken’ rail system across the UK and deliver reliable services for all were set out by the Government, and the Department for Transport (DfT) stated its aim to ‘rewire Britain’s railways’, it’s now been confirmed that rail fares have risen nationally as of yesterday (2 March).

The price hike means that some commuters, and those who regularly use rail services, will have to pay tens or hundreds of pounds more for travel per year.

Season tickets on most commuter journeys, peak and off-peak return tickets, and flexible tickets for travel around major cities are just some of the journeys set to see fares increase.

According to campaigners at the Campaign for Better Transport, an annual season ticket from Macclesfield to Manchester will rise by £146 while an annual season ticket from York to Leeds will rise by £133.

Some railcards are also subject to the price hike too, which was capped at 4.6% by the Government.

Railcards in Britain, excluding those for disabled passengers, became more expensive for the first time in 12 years, with the price of a three-year card having now risen from £70 to £80, while a one-year card has increased from £30 to £35.

Train operators set their own prices for unregulated fares, but these tend to increase by a similar amount to regulated fares – including on lines that have already been re-nationalised.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander says she ‘understands’ why passengers are frustrated.

“I understand that passengers are frustrated that rail fares keep rising despite unacceptable levels of delays and cancellations,” she commented, “which is why this Government made sure this was the lowest increase in three years, and below the growth in average earnings.

“We inherited a railway that was not fit for purpose, and I know it will take time for trust to be restored, with trains turning up on time, when and where they’re needed.”

Michael Solomon Williams, from Campaign for Better Transport, said the price hikes ‘will pile further misery on hard-pressed households’.

He added: “If the Government wants to do something genuinely popular, get Britain moving and help people with the cost of living, it should be making rail fares cheaper.”

It seems even the most star-studded celebrities can't resist the South Indian flavours of Tharavadu.

It's no surprise that Tharavadu on Mill Hill is a popular spot for locals and sporting stars alike, known as a firm favourite of Indian Cricket Team Captain Virat kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma.

But now it seems like word has spread, as they recently welcomed a whole host of Hollywood A-listers including Australian actress Rebel Wilson.

She's up in Leeds filming for the upcoming Christmas comedy, Tinsel Town, alongside Ray Fearon, Lucien Laviscount, and Meera Syal who also stopped by at Tharavadu for some grub.

Posting the exciting news to Instagram, Tharavadu wrote: "We were thrilled to welcome film stars Rebel Wilson, Ray Fearon, Lucien Laviscount, and Meera Syal to our restaurant during their Yorkshire visit for the shooting of the upcoming Christmas comedy, Tinsel Town. Rebel Wilson, in particular, made multiple visits, relishing our sumptuous cuisine and warm hospitality.

Alfonso Deli to open permanent Cuban bodega in Leeds' Grand Arcade

A team of Leeds hospitality heavyweights have announced the return of Alfonso's - and this time it's permanent.

Alfonso's first popped up at The Junction's pop-up space, The Junc Shed, in the summer, serving authentic Cuban sandwiches (or Cubanos) and bagels.

And now they've announced that they're launching a proper bodega deli in Leeds' beautiful historic Grand Arcade this spring.

Alfonso's comes from the team behind Koben Smokehouse and Thiccc Sauce, with a strong New York and Miami influence.

Koben Smokehouse specialises in Texan-style slow-cooked meats, while Thiccc Sauce pops up on telly and in restaurants all the time thanks to its delicious, flavour-packed sauces.

Cubanos will be the first thing to catch your eye at Alfonso's - these incredible sandwiches are made with slow-smoked mojo pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and Thiccc sauce, before being pressed and toasted.

Alfonso's new spot will also have cold cuts, smoked meats, hot coffee, and - in the spirit of a proper New York City bodega - newspapers and lottery tickets.

At the time of their launch at The Junction, owner Luca said: "Why Cuban sandwiches? Our close friends in Miami, originally from Cuba & the Dominican passed us down their authentic Cubano recipe which includes mojo pork, smoked daily low & slow over applewood wood chips at our HQ in Holbeck on top of smoked ham, Swiss cheese, Thiccc sauce honey mustard, pickles & Cuban bread."

More details on this new Alfonso's opening are expected soon, with a launch pencilled in for late april.

Marks & Spencer food hall on Wellington Street set to close later this month

As of the end of March we won't be able to get our Percy Pig fix on Wellington Street any longer.

Whether you're popping in for a Dine in for Two Meal Deal or an iconic Colin the Caterpillar cake, there's no denying that we all love a cheeky trip to M&S.

After all, it's not just food...it's M&S food.

But unfortunately for us, one Marks & Spencer food hall in the city centre is closing its doors for good at the end of this month.

The one in question is on Wellington Street, just round the corner from the train station and nearby the Wellington Place development.

Signs have gone up on the windows announcing its closure, stating it will be closing on Saturday 22 March 2025.

Now the only two remaining stores are the train station location and the superstore on Briggate.

We here at The Hoot shared the sad news via Instagram and were met with mixed responses.

Comments said: "This is an odd move to make, I use that store a lot. We have a massive residential population now in the West End, including myself and we'll be left with just two supermarkets to serve the whole district, Tesco and Sainsburys."

"Like most of these developments they can’t predict the footfall, just like down at Leeds dock, it’s a ghost town because people go into the centre.
Oh and if you want a big shop, you’ll take your car to either crown point or whiterose to put your shopping in."

"I love this store ! I use it all the time . Also get my clothes collections from there - I hate going to the big one in town and the station one is not great . I will really miss it @marksandspencerfood please rethink !"

Real hawks have been hired to scare off naughty pigeons at Northern train stations

Northern has hired real hawks to help scare off pigeons who are ‘causing problems’ at train stations across the region.

You may remember that at the back end of 2023, the rail operator declared that it wanted to ‘force pigeons to take flight’ by trialing a whole host of new deterrents at stations across its network, and did so by positioning plastic owls around some platforms to scare them off, along with a host of other special measures.

As well as the fake owl statues, Northern also started using a special gel on ledges and roof trusses that’s designed to trick pigeons into thinking the surface is too hot for them to land on, and to really hammer it home, noises that simulate predatory hawks were broadcast out of massive speakers too.

But now, they’re ready to take things up a notch.

Because Northern claimed the ‘pests’ continued to keep ‘flocking to stations and nesting’, two real hawks called Maverick and Zulu have now been deployed at a couple of stations in Yorkshire as part of a 12-week trial.

If they prove to be effective, the rail operator says the real hawks could be introduced at other Northern stations which have been ‘plagued’ by pigeons in recent years.

Northern is keen to assure customers that the hawks are ‘not being used for hunting’.

“We have tried plastic owls and recorded hawk noises, but they weren’t an effective deterrent,” explained Alex Hornby, who is Northern’s commercial and customer director. “So now we’ve brought in real birds of prey to help us with our pigeon problem.

“The pigeons are a real nuisance for our customers and cause headaches for the station staff who have to clear up after them.

“That’s why we’re determined to find humane ways of keeping them away.”

A bakery serving fish finger croissants is opening in Leeds this spring

Having already made a name for itself over in Sheffield, Le Croissant is getting ready to open its first site here in Leeds.

You've heard of almond croissants and chocolate croissants, maybe even a pistachio croissant, but have you heard of a fish finger croissant?

If you haven't then you're about to, because an innovative bakery dedicated to weird and wonderful croissants is coming to Leeds.

Le Croissant, part of the beloved Cawa bakery group over in Sheffield, has made a name for itself over in the Steel City for its delicious flakey pastries that you can get your hands on at multiple locations across the city.

Their viral fish finger croissant loaded with cheese and, of course, fish fingers has made headlines but the wacky creations don't stop there.

You can also get your hands on a wagyu burger croissant, pizza croissant and a strawberry and cream croissant for those sweet toothed pastry lovers out there.

Le Croissant will be opening inside Leeds Bus Station this spring, with the shop fit out taking place over the next three weeks.

The House Party at Leeds Playhouse - one party invite you don’t want to miss

The House Party, a contemporary reimagining of Strindberg's Miss Julie, bursts with raw energy and visual spectacle.

After premiering at Chichester Festival Theatre, the play now embarks on its UK tour, making a stop at Leeds Playhouse before heading to Manchester's HOME Theatre from 25 until 29 March.

At the heart of this production is Julie, a young woman at a desperate crossroads in life. Her 18th birthday party becomes the catalyst for a series of charged and volatile encounters.

This collaboration between two powerhouse theatre companies - Headlong Theatre, known for its visual artistry, and Frantic Assembly, famous for its contemporary movement - results in a performance electrified by style and energy.

Movement director Scott Graham transports the audience into the chaotic, adolescent world of a house party through highly stylized choreography. The seamless blending of visual, audio, and movement is one of the production’s standout elements, crafting a playground that reflects the naivety and childlike behavior of the characters.

Synnøve Karlsen’s portrayal of Julie is nothing short of captivating. She expertly navigates the emotional volatility of a character who is both searching for connection and consumed by loneliness.

The play’s choreography, full of wild dance numbers and frenzied intoxication, amplifies Julie’s spiralling emotional state. Karlsen’s performance is a powerful exploration of a young woman’s internal struggles with identity, heartbreak, and the longing for validation.

The supporting cast also delivers strong performances. Sesley Hope brings a haunting depth to Christine, a woman caught between loyalty and personal aspiration, while Tom Lewis, as John, plays a quiet, longing character who is entangled in Julie’s tumultuous world. His yearning for her encapsulates the central theme of unattainable love that permeates the story.

While the production’s energy is undeniably captivating, at times it overwhelms the quieter moments of reflection that underscore the deeper themes of loneliness and isolation.

The digital clock, counting down the time of the party, serves as a stark metaphor for the fleeting nature of the characters’ lives, their brief connections, and their doomed desires. However, the relentless momentum sometimes drowns out the subtler, more poignant moments that provide emotional depth to the play.

In the end, The House Party is a compelling modern take on a classic drama. Its vibrant, high-energy atmosphere pulls the audience in, while the complex emotional currents linger long after the performance ends.

It’s a tense, occasionally uncomfortable exploration of intimacy, isolation, and the messy, often painful consequences of desire.

Huge US fast food chain said to be ‘much better’ than McDonald’s is coming to the UK

Fast food fans, feel free to get excited because a big US burger-driven brand hailed by many as ‘better’ than McDonald’s is coming to the UK.

The rumours are true: Leeds could very soon get a Carl’s Jr.

Carl’s Jr. is an American chain best known for chicken sandwiches and its trademark ‘charbroiled’ beef patties such as menu favourites like the ‘Famous Star’. You can even get star-shaped chicken nuggets.

First opening back in 1941, it’s very nearly as old as Maccies itself and although its profile is much smaller than that of the iconic golden arches, there are many who still firmly believe that it serves a superior product than the global conglomerate.

Well, hopefully soon you’ll be able to decide for yourselves as Carl’s Jr. is set to face off with McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Popeyes and all the other franchises that have made their way across the Atlantic over the last half a century or so – and it’s coming to Wales first.

In an announcement made via Restaurant Online, Carl’s Jr.’s country manager under parent company BRG (Boparan Restaurant Group), David Moffat said: “We’re looking at a steady rollout with a target of 100 restaurants plus in four years.

“We’ll open a number of corporate stores that we’ll retain as we go along and we’ll also be going into the sub-franchise market, which we hope to begin actioning towards the end of the year. We’ve had a lot of interest from big group franchisees already.”

Named after founder Carl N. Karcher, who set up the very first iteration of Carl’s Jr. after moving from his hometown of Ohio to California and purchasing a hot dog cart for $326, the brand then opened as a drive-in BBQ in January 1945 before opening its first real restaurants in 1956.

Although both he and his wife Margaret have long since passed away, there is a huge family lineage that has carried on the name and it’s only gotten bigger with each decade that’s passed.

So what separates it from its biggest and most dominant competition? Well, not only do lots of American diners swear by their charbroiled burger recipes over McDonald’s big a part of the Carl’s Jr.s over Maccies campaign front is said to come down to the chips – especially as they also do waffle fries .

Put simply by one user on X just last month, he believes “Carl’s Jr is the best fast food burger”. Current day Carl’s in the States now boasts everything from the classic burger and chicken to sandwiches, milkshakes, sides and desserts to a sizeable breakfast menu.

However, Moffat clarified that “the UK will probably have the smallest menu outside the US, which will be focused on the core products: burgers, chicken and fries. You’ve got to look at it culturally and in a way that ensures the brand has a broad, diverse appeal.”

For context, as well as five sites in Europe, there are locations in: Australia, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Russia, Singapore and Vietnam.

Judging by the endless expansion, Carl’s Jr. was always going to come to the UK, it was just a matter of when. This move was actually confirmed back in May 2024, when they reached a master license agreement with BRG to bring the brand to Britain, as well as the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The first UK Carl’s Jr. restaurant in Cardiff is set to open in the St David’s shopping centre in April and a second site is due to launch somewhere in the south – you would presume London but who knows? – in time for the summer.

However, before we get ahead of ourselves, we want to know if any of you have tried the chain before and do you agree that it’s ‘better’ than Maccies?

Yorkshire accent crowned one of the 'most desirable' in the UK

The humble Yorkshire accent has been named one of the ‘most desired’ accent in the UK, according to a new analysis.

Yep, we'll absolutely take that.

A new analysis by The Hearing Care Partnership has revealed which regional voices are ‘turning heads’ in 2025, and the Yorkshire accent has been included in the 10.

Last year in the hearing care company’s study, Essex topped the list as the UK’s most desired accent, but in 2025, Manchester came up to first place with a huge 127% increase in searches, pushing Essex down to the second spot.

The company claims the long-awaited Oasis reunion could be the ‘driving force’ behind the nation’s new curiosity towards Manchester’s tone.

“It’s interesting to see how the Manchester accent has become popular all of a sudden,” Ashish Shah, who is an audiologist at The Hearing Care Partnership, commented on the findings.

Coming in at number three was the Welsh accent and finally at number four was Yorkshire, obviously we're biased and would've bumped it up to number one but you can't have it all.

Elsewhere on the list, it appears that regional accents across the UK have seen noticeable shifts.

Our unique sound has seen an 18% boost this year, which is a major shift from 2024 when it was one of the least desirable, and the Geordie accent has also remained a favourite with a 17% increase in interest.

Cockney and Scouse accents have also continued to hold strong, with steady increases between 12% and 17% each.

Leeds Bradford Airport unveils first images of massive £100 million terminal expansion

New animation and CGI visuals have been released to give an insight into the airport's brand-new terminal expansion.

The shiny new terminal will open later this year, and it's safe to say we are very excited indeed.

And now, we have a sneak peek of what to expect as animation and CGI visuals have been released by the airport.

The highly anticipated expansion project remains on track, and will be offering passengers travel for up to 80 destinations.

The new departure lounge will feature enhanced seating areas and an improved retail and dining offering whilst a striking exterior view highlights the terminal’s contemporary and trendy design.

The visuals also show the new baggage reclaim area designed to streamline the arrivals process for travellers, plus an upgraded passport control area, which will incorporate cutting-edge security technology, ensuring a smoother and more secure journey for all passengers.

Five giant tortoises have moved to Tropical World in Roundhay after outgrowing home

Tropical World has welcomed five new, and particularly slow, friends with open arms.

The five sulcata tortoises, also known as African spurred tortoises, have moved from the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port to Tropical World in Roundhay.

These tortoises are the third largest species of tortoise in the world, after the Aldabra giant tortoise and the Galapagos tortoise.

Announcing the exciting news to Instagram, Tropical world said: "Exciting news. We recently welcomed five giant tortoises to their new home here at Tropical World!

"These gentle giants had outgrown their previous habitat and are now settling into their spacious new environment. The Sulcata Tortoise, with a life expectancy of over 70 years, is the largest mainland tortoise in the world and the third largest overall.

"Come visit us and meet our newest residents"

Abigail Hardwick, animal officer at Tropical World, said: “They all have coloured markings on their shells so we know who is who. Tank is the biggest male and the most boisterous, he can often be seen pushing the other boys out of the way to be first to the food bowls.

“They’re all settling in well!”

One of the UK's largest indoor tropical rainforest visitor attractions, Tropical World has been welcoming guests since 1988 and is comprised of seven zones which all replicate a tropical environment from around the world.

BBC looking for people from Yorkshire to test their music knowledge and win £10,000

Consider yourself a music fan? Spend your days with tunes on in the background? Would you be able to identify a song within the first couple of seconds?

Well this might be your chance to win £10,000.

The BBC is currently casting for the next series of its smash-hit competition show The Hit List, where contestants get their music knowledge put to the ultimate test, and is now looking for people from across Yorkshire to apply and be in with the chance of winning a massive pot of cash.

The Hit List, presented by popstar couple Marvin and Rochelle Humes, sees three pairs of music-lovers go up against each other.

Across three rounds, the contestants attempt to identify huge hits from across the years, and the three teams must prove their ability to recognise songs from across all genres of music, both artist and song title, if they want to take home the win.

A casting call for the next series of The Hit List on the BBC website reads: “Could your love of music win you a £10,000 cash prize? We are looking for lively pairs of contestants to take part.”

Any one can apply to take part in the show, but producers and casting directors say they would particularly love to hear from couples, grandparent and grandchild, siblings, best mates, and parent and offspring.

“Anything goes, as long as you love your music and know your hits,” the casting call concludes.

Anyone who applies to the show must be a legal UK resident, and be available for potential filming dates in early April 2025 up in Glasgow.

Although it’s a little further for us to travel, thankfully, all travel and accommodation will be provided if your application is successful.

Get ready to laugh your socks off because the UK’s top comedy venue, The Glee, is coming to Leeds this month.

If you like a good giggle then you’re going to love this news because the award-winning independent comedy club, The Glee, is opening up in Leeds on Friday 28 March 2025.

The Glee will be opening its sixth UK venue slap bang in the city centre on Albion Street, and will offer a fantastic weekly programme of comedy, live music and entertainment.

Among the opening weekend performers are BAFTA award winning comedian, Tom Davis; star of Live at the Apollo and multi-award winning, Brennan Reece; Irish comedian and star of Black Books Dylan Moran; stand-up comedian and host of Fin vs The Internet, Fin Taylor; and English actress, comedian and presenter Michelle De Swarte.

Established a whopping 30 years ago, The Glee is the leading operator of comedy venues in the UK.

New survey reveals 40% of Brits haven’t read a single book in the last year

A shocking new survey has revealed that 40% of Brits haven’t read a single book within the last year alone.

Reading is a lifeline for some, it’s a chance to delve into a story, open your mind, expand your horizons, and lose yourself in another world, but at present, it’s fair to say that reading is far from a universal habit among British adults – and in fact, 40% claim to have not picked up or listened to a single book in the last 12 months.

Ahead of World Book Day last week, YouGov decided to look into the reading habits of the British public and asked a total of 2121 adults a series of literary-related questions.

According to the survey, a quarter of Brits (23%) who responded say they have read or listened to between one and five books in the last year, with a further 10% admitting to reading or listening to between six and 10, and an extra 10% making their way through between 11 and 20 books.

There are a small number of so-called ‘mega-readers’, however, with 4% of respondents claiming they have read more than 50 books , which is roughly one or more books a week, on average.

As often tends to be the case with many survey results, the results do differ between gender, age, and social class.

Two-thirds of women (66%) say they have read or listened to a book in the last year, but just over half of men (53%) say they have.

Older Brits are also more likely to be readers too, with 65% of over 65s and 63% of 50-64 year olds having read at least one book or listened to one audiobook in the last year, compared to just 57% of 25-49 year olds, and 53% of 18-24 year olds.

According to YouGov’s findings, there is also something of a class divide in reading too.

66% of survey respondents who live in middle class households have read or listened to a book in the last 12 months, compared to just 52% those living in working class households.

And how about frequency? According to the survey, 50% of Brits say they read or listen to books at least once a week, with 37% reading ‘most days’, and 20% reading every day, and women more likely than men to be daily readers at 27%.

Just 15% of Brits say they ‘never’ read or listen to books at all.

While a growing number of Brits may be using audiobooks, most 53% don’t consider ‘listening’ to be the equivalent of having read the same book, and 82% still prefer physical copies of books.

First look images released of new Channel 4 drama series set in Leeds

The new coming-of-age drama series will air on Channel 4 later this month.

The first look images have been released for Dreamers, a coming-of-age drama series created by Lisa Holdsworth and Gem Copping.

Set and filmed in Leeds, the series is based on characters that have been workshopped and inspired by people from the city with support from the Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF), which was managed by the BFI and funded by the UK Government.

The production was shot in and around Leeds and provided a fantastic opportunity for 10 Leeds-based people to break into the broadcast industry.

Production was tailored to people with no previous production experience, providing training, mentoring, one-to-one sessions, career planning and the chance to work on a major production.

The series follows an eclectic group of dance students as they navigate the intense highs and lows of coming of age in today’s complex world – captured through stories which are as joyful and funny as they are raw and truthful, brought viscerally to life via irresistible dance choreography.

“Leeds we made it” - Gracie Abrams finally takes on the Leeds First Direct Arena

Gracie Abrams brought the vibes, bows, songs and girlies to Leeds.

Let's face it, you were either at Gracie Abrams or Sabrina Carpenter last night but wow were we glad to be at Leeds First Direct Arena.

Gracie is a sensational performer and I personally only became a big fan of her at the end of last year after "That's So True” went viral on TikTok.

After a cancelled show last week, Gracie made a speedy recovery and rescheduled for Thursday 13 March. Best friend in hand, surrounded by girlies (and their parents) in bows, the atmosphere was wild and we were ready for the show to begin. With one beady eye on the look out for Paul Mescal.

She elegantly flowed onto the stage, wearing the most gorgeous long silk dress with sparkled black bowed arm ties. Kicking off the show with "Felt So Good About You” and "Risk” back to back and it's safe to say I’ve never heard the crowd roar with applause like that ever.

She quickly apologised for being poorly and welcomed everyone by saying “Leeds, we made it, welcome to the Secret Of Us Tour”. She then went onto say how she has so many feelings about this rescheduled gig and thanked the crowd for being there "you're so understanding, showing up and being so generous. I can’t tell you what this means to be - sincerely thank you”

I’ve never seen a performer like Gracie before, she was beautifully interacting with the crowd at every opportunity, whether that was taking scrap books off the super fans, phones for selfies, talking to them directly or waving at every part of the arena possible. It was very clear to see her fans loved her and she loved them just as much.

Mid-set she took everyone to a re-creation of her childhood bedroom in the middle of the standing pit, where she wrote most of her early material. She sat down on her white double bed, next to her a bedside table with a lamp and of course, her keyboard where she continued to interact with fans and perform some of her early material.

The evening was truly electric and I genuinely felt like I made a friend in Gracie. Her warm approach to the crowd was genuine and really beautiful. Time for one of my favourites “Cool”, although we all knew it was closing to the end, the roars and screams to every single lyric did not stop.

And that was my night over with, heading to my car with headphones on blasting Gracie Abrams complete on Spotify and contemplating If I could pull off cutting my hair into a sharp bob.

A new hacienda hangout has landed in our city and we're sure it's going to be the place to be this summer.

To put it bluntly, entering this venue which is on top of the Hyatt Hotel on Sovereign Street will get you instantly feeling like you're on Love Island.

We're talking fire pits, plush booth seating, lavish greenery and plenty of rattan - the interior really is stunning.

There's two massive rooftops which offer jaw dropping views of the city, as well as one long dining room and bar area for when it gets a bit chilly (which let's be honest, is the majority of the time).

Azotea is bringing a slice of Latin America to the city, with a menu inspired by 33 countries.

Expect Mexican street food, Brazilian sharing steaks, Caribbean small plates and so much more to dig your teeth into whilst enjoying the beautiful setting.

There's also a cracking cocktail list for those sun set drinks with friends, of course.

If you are wanting to sit outside on one of the bigger tables, it won't come cheap as Azotea will be requesting deposits for group bookings over eight as well as minimum spends.

However, for a special occasion there really isn't anything like it in the city and the views themselves make it worth the money.
