A no confidence vote in Boris Johnson's leadership has officially been triggered.
The Prime Minister will face the vote this evening after reaching the threshold of 54 letters from Tory MPs.
It follows months of speculation that Mr Johnson's leadership could be toppled following the ongoing 'partygate' scandal, The Manc reports.
At least 15% of Tory MPs have officially written to the chair of the 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers, Sir Graham Brady, calling for a vote.
Sir Graham said that he notified Mr Johnson yesterday evening that the threshold for a contest had now been reached, and the pair then agreed on timings for the vote together - with it set to take place between 6pm and 8pm this evening in the House of Commons.
An announcement on the result is then expected about an hour after the vote closes.
Confirming that the vote is to take place, a Downing Street spokesperson said: "Tonight is a chance to end months of speculation and allow the government to draw a line and move on, delivering on the people's priorities.
"The PM welcomes the opportunity to make his case to MPs and will remind them that when they're united and focused on the issues that matter to voters there is no more formidable political force."
Although Sir Graham said that he would not be revealing when the threshold for letters had been reached or how many letters have been submitted in total, he said it would "not be a bad description" to say that some MPs had asked for their letters to be post-dated to ensure the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations were not interrupted.
How will the vote work then? Well, for the Prime Minister to be ousted, half of Tory MPs plus one would need to vote against him - which is currently 180 MPs.
If he wins, he will remain as party leader and Prime Minister and be immune from another such challenge for a year, but if he loses, a contest to choose a new party leader and Prime Minister will take place, and Mr Johnson will be barred from standing.

Nova Bakehouse is a beautiful sun drenched spot that serve up irresistible morning buns, chewy cookies and speciality bread.

A huge pumpkin festival with over 300,000 pumpkins is returning to Leeds this autumn

With up to 300,000 to choose from, the Farmer Copley's Pumpkin Festival is the ultimate pumpkin picking spot in Leeds.
Look, we know it's still August...but we can't help but get a little bit excited.
And it's safe to say that Farmer Copleys really do know a thing or two about growing pumpkins.
Every year, this family-run farm transform into one of the UK's biggest pumpkin festivals to offer the cosiest day out for all the family to enjoy.

This year, there will be more than 300,000 pumpkins across over 40 different varieties, ranging from traditional orange pumpkins to beautiful white, green and striped varieties.
As well as choosing the perfect pumpkin to take home, the fields provide an excellent backdrop for autumn photographs, with photo opportunities and installations located throughout the festival.
One of this year’s biggest additions will be a brand-new Land Rover photo installation, bringing together one of Farmer Copleys’ own vintage Land Rovers with a new Land Rover kindly loaned to the farm for the festival.

Also new for this year, in the first weekend of the festival, the farm will be hosting a Pumpkin Pilates event where ticket holders can enjoy early morning Pilates session within the pumpkin fields.
And like always, visitors can enjoy tractor rides through the pumpkin fields, live shows and entertainment, archery, vintage fairground rides, Witches’ Storytime and magical performances, Velcro the Scarecrow and other family characters, as well as the festival’s popular daily fancy dress competitions.
Farmer Copleys Owner Rob Copley said: “Pumpkin Festival is such a special time of year for us and something the whole team works towards for months. We grow hundreds of thousands of pumpkins here on the farm, but we’ve always wanted the festival to be about much more than simply choosing a pumpkin.
“For 2026 we’ve invested in new installations, upgraded areas of the festival and added more live music. We’re particularly excited about the new Land Rover feature, bringing together one of our vintage vehicles with a brand-new Land Rover. We think it’s going to make a brilliant addition to the festival and another great place for families to capture their visit.”
