George's Great British Kitchen on The Headrow in Leeds has closed suddenly, leaving some diners furious after they turned up for their reservations - only to find the kitchen had shut down.
The restaurant, which first opened in 2017 according to a lease document posted on its door, quietly announced its shock closure via a sign that went up on 15 June.
A sign on the door reads: "This restaurant is now closed for business."

A lease document on the restaurant's door, headlined 'notice of peaceable re-entry' advises that the property's landlord had 're-entered' the building on June 15 and, as a result, the business's lease has now been forfeited.
The solicitor's letter also states that criminal proceedings would take place against anyone trying to get inside the business subsequently.
Peer through the windows, though, and the restaurant looks untouched - with tables all laid up for the next service.
However, some diners with bookings were left stranded after turning up at the restaurant to find it closed.

On the restaurant's TripAdvisor, some reported that St George's British Kitchen was still taking bookings despite the closure.
Another said they had even received a Father's Day confirmation email that said the restaurant was 'looking forward' to seeing them, despite the fact it had closed.
She wrote: " Taking bookings and sending confirmation emails.
"Got an email this evening for Father’s Day tomorrow saying looking forward to seeing you.
"And the place is closed. Disgusting."
Another tried to warn others of the restaurant's closing, writing:
"Decided on a meal at George's so booked online 1 hour before visit.
"Arrived before a concert to find notice on door.
"Another couple too approached us that was booked in too.
"Just to warn others."
The website page for the Leeds branch of George's Great British Kitchen has now been taken offline, with the site reporting a URL error.
The restaurant in Nottingham, however, still appears to be operational.

Not only that, but Montirex will be hosting games all-weekend-long.
And if you can't make it that weekend, then do not fear. As on Friday 7 - Sunday 9 August, The Crep Protect truck will be rolling into Meadowhall giving out free goodie bags for customers who sign up to JD Status and follow Crep Protect.

Sneaker Throne will also be offering a shoe-cleaning experience, with demonstrations showing customers how to keep their trainers fresh using products available in-store and goodie bags will be on offer which will also include tokens to play the Cop & Flop game.

Shortlist for 2026 Mercury Prize announced with several northern names making the cut

The shortlist for the 2026 Mercury Prize has officially landed - and it's another huge year for music from the north.
The prestigious annual award, which celebrates the very best British and Irish albums released over the past 12 months, has unveiled its 12 nominated records ahead of this year's ceremony in Newcastle this October.
Among the biggest talking points is a first-ever Mercury Prize nomination for music legend and northern icon Sir Paul McCartney, whose latest album The Boys Of Dungeon Lane has earned him a place on the shortlist.
Elsewhere representing the north, Newcastle jazz collective Knats have been shortlisted for A Great Day In Newcastle while jungle pioneer Nia Archives, who comes from Bradford, is recognised for her acclaimed album Emotional Junglist.

Another artist flying the Newcastle flag is JADE with her debut solo album That's Showbiz Baby!, whilst other notable nominations include Olivia Dean, RAYE and and the charity compilation HELP(2) from War Child Records.

This year's Mercury Prize ceremony will return to Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Thursday 22 October after the city successfully hosted the awards for the first time last year.
The 2025 event saw hometown hero Sam Fender take home the coveted prize for People Watching, and who knows - maybe The Toon will bag another prize for a hometown hero.
