New report names Leeds amongst the happiest places to live in the UK

It’s all smiles here in Leeds.

The new report published by Rightmove names our wonderful city as one of the happiest places to live in the UK.

Leeds has been placed at number 70 in the property company’s acclaimed annual listing of happiest places to live in the UK which was published yesterday.

It may not be number one, or number two or three for that matter, but we did rank above Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool – so we’ll take that as a win.

So who came in first place then? A port town in Suffolk called Woodbridge took the top spot, whilst the London borough of Richmond upon Thames came in second place and Hexham in Northumberland came in third.

Our lovely Leeds climbed a whopping 43 places compared to its 2023 ranking of 113th in the UK, so we must have all got a lot happier since then.

Leeds was ranked higher than Manchester who came in 154th, Liverpool at 174th, Birmingham at a low 211th and Sheffield who came closely behind us at a respectable 75th.

The prestigious report, now in its 13th year, is completed by over 35,000 across Britain who are asked how they feel living in their own area.

Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert, said: “It’s the younger generation who are most likely to say they would be happier living somewhere else, many of whom have to travel to cities for education or to find their first jobs.”

The research indicated that the type of area that made residents most happy was a rural location by woodland or a forest, or being near a National Park or National Landscape.
