The oldest sweet shop in the world is still running – and it’s right here in Yorkshire

Sherbet lemons, pear drops, rhubarb and custards – you name it, they’ve got it.

Whether you’re a wide eyed child looking to spend their pocket money or a nostalgic adult embarking on a trip down memory lane…you just can’t beat a proper sweet shop.

Especially when it’s the oldest one in the world.

Nestled in Pateley Bridge, this family run business has traded since 1827 and was validated as the oldest sweet shop in the world by the Guinness World Book of records in 2014.

Using traditional recipes you can find everything from old fashioned pear drops to black jacks and fine boxes of chocolates, it’s the best place to pop by and order your favourite sweet weighed using their vintage copper scales and packaged up in a paper bag.

Inside you’ll find walls lined with jars of colourful delights, from strawberry bon bons to midget gems and dolly mixtures. Whatever sugary confectionary you can think of, they’ve probably got it.

Having recently switched owners the shop is still thriving and attracts visitors from far and wide and we can certainly see why, just stepping through the doors will transport you to a fairy book.

The oldest sweet shop in world can be found on High Street in the quaint Pateley Bridge, where you’ll also find a number of local butchers, cosy tea rooms and pubs to enjoy whilst you’re there.

Sounds like a perfect weekend trip if you ask us.
