A vending machine selling tents has appeared in Leeds

Yes, we couldn’t quite believe it either.

In what seems like a random turn of events, a camping tent vending machine has popped up inside Trinity Leeds.

Created by sports retailed DeCathlon, it’s thought to be the first of its kind in the world.

The bright blue vending machine has been designed to help stem big queues at the retailer’s stores, as Leeds’ festival-goers rush to pick up camping equipment ahead of the easing of restrictions on July 19.

Located between M&S and Rox, it dispenses 2 person fresh and black camping tents.

Between a rise in demand for staycations and the news that this summer’s programme of festivals can definitely go ahead, there’s been a huge surge in demand for tents according to DeCathlon.

So they decided to build a bespoke vending machine to help them keep up with rising demand.

The tent vending machine carries just one style of tent, the Quechua 2 Seconds Easy Tent which is priced at £99.99.

“We’ve seen a big rise in demand for tents, with demand for all camping products up over 500% compared to 2020, in the run-up to festival season and as many people start planning their summer staycations,” said Chris Allen, outdoor sports leader at Decathlon UK.

“We’ve created a one-of-a-kind vending machine, which we believe is a world first, to help make camping as accessible as possible, so it is a little bit easier for shoppers to grab a tent on the go.”
