Jane McDonald to replace Phillip Schofield as British Soap Awards host

Fans are thrilled at the news.

Wakefield’s Jane McDonald has been announced as Philip Schofield’s replacement as the host of this week’s British Soap Awards.

Wakefield legend Jane McDonald is best known as a singer, television presenter and panelist on ITV’s Loose Women.

Philip Schofield has recently stepped down from all presenting commitments with ITV after he publicly admitted to having a romantic affair with a younger member of staff at This Morning.

Philip Schofield said last week: “I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family.

“I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.”

Jane McDonald announced that she would be replacing Schofield as presenter for the British Soap Awards this weekend.

She took to Instagram and stated this was “a dream come true”.

She said: “I’m so excited to be this years host for The British Soap Awards!! Everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them – roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”

Fans of Jane flooded the comments expressing how thrilled they were. Fans wrote: “Absolutely brilliant news …. I don’t watch the soaps but I love watching you so shall be tuning in….. we need to see more of you on the TV.”

“Congratulations, couldn’t have went to a better person. Better have a stellar song at the end.”

The awards will air on Tuesday 6 May at 8pm on ITV1.
