Council papers have confirmed that Leeds’ new e-bike scheme will officially launch on Friday 15 September 2023.
In what has been called a potential game-changer for Leeds, the exciting new e-bike scheme will allow people to hire an electric bike and cycle throughout the inner city centre.
Beryl Bikes, who are the company who will run the new system, have said that the price of hiring one of the e-bikes will cost riders “less than the price of a cup of coffee”.
Beryl Bikes already run the scheme in other major cities across the UK.
During the first phase of the scheme there will be an initial 350 bikes to hire at docking stations across the city centre, Holbeck, Headingley and Weetwood.
It’s hoped the system will provide a greater green alternative to the car and encourage more people to take up cycling.
More bikes will hopefully be introduced in the future following the success of the scheme.
The confirmed docking stations are:
Businesses near the proposed docking stations were contacted about the instalment, and “have been written to advising them of the proposals and seeking feedback where they had concerns” according to a council document.
It said: “Only a small number of objections were received and the station deployment proposals have changed in response to the feedback.”
