The news has just been released by the BBC.
It has been announced this afternoon that the Leeds German Christmas Markets have been cancelled for another year.
Usually held from early November to the end of the year at Millenium Square, the Christkindelmarkt is usually one of the most exciting events in the festive build-up.
The markets did not take place in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid restrictions, but a reason for this year’s cancellation is yet to be announced.

The council also warned people to be aware of fake Christmas market events being advertised online, stating “We are also aware of some fake Facebook events circulating with regards to a Leeds German Christmas Market which is not taking place. Please only trust information that is endorsed by Millennium Square, Leeds City Council and / or Visit Leeds.”
Last year upon the news of the cancelled markets, the council announced some “exciting alternative events to celebrate the festive season [which] animate Millenium Square and other spaces around the city centre.”
Instead this year, Leeds can look forward to the return of Ice Cube at Millenium Square, with a small selection of food and drink vendors, winter-themed rides and attractions for all ages to enjoy.
The Corn Exchange will also host a huge Christmas market based around festive food and drink, and it is expected that plenty of other alternatives will be offered around the city centre.

Whilst it might not be the news Leeds was hoping for this year, at least this gives some clarity to the Leeds German Christmas Markets for the 2022 season.
