Roxys unveil Leeds first ice-free curling rink- and it's opening next month
We really can't contain our excitement for this one.
Anyone living in Leeds will know the exhilaration of rolling a strike at Roxy Lanes, killer cocktail in hand as screams of applause fill the room. Meanwhile, there's beer pong balls flying around everywhere. On the other side of the room, there's bartenders aplenty pouring our favourite drinks quickly enough that we can join the next round of shuffleboard without losing our place in the queue.
Simply, it's a place of social gathering that we all know and love for its never-ending list of activities and incredible drinks.
The Roxy bar is always the place to be in Leeds on a Friday night for a fun-filled night.
It's our go-to spot for first dates and work socials, safe in the knowledge there will be no awkward pauses and if in doubt, you can grab a bowling ball and create something to talk about.
Now, in its biggest move to date, Roxy Lanes will be opening a giant new venue, spread across multiple storeys, and giving us more room than ever before to kick back, relax and join the everlasting party inside their four walls.
The classic Long Island will be available at the new Roxy venue.
The new venue, set to open this February at The Light, will have Leeds' first ice-curling rink- and we're super excited to add this to our Roxy’s checklist upon our next visit.
Slide stones down the smooth surface and try to hit the bullseye and become the champion at one of the only rinks of its kind in the UK.
Luckily, any anticipated snow for the next month will remain outside as Roxy are implementing an ice-free curling lane. This one-of-a-kind experience will be the first to permanently set up in our city centre and we can't wait to see how this innovative idea will come to life.
There will be not one, but two lanes of ice-free curling at the new Roxy Lanes.
As a result of opening this giant venue, Roxy’s latest venture will be bowling their balls for the last time at their Bond Street location and retiring the venue to make way for another exciting new venture.
The new 15,000 square foot venue at The Light is replacing former student-hangover-haven, Red Hot Buffet, which closed back in 2021. Given the huge space that Roxy now have on their hands, it really makes sense to bring the best of their new venue, a mere 0.3 miles from their old Bond Street location.
For an extra five minutes’ walk, guests will be impressed by a menu of craft beers to cocktails and spirits, before heading on to play some games.
In the basement, the dedicated game station will be waiting for those who dare to win. Ten bowling alleys, two duckpin bowling lanes, shuffle boards, American pool tables, beer pong and then there's the new ice-free curling rink upstairs.
It's a place for the whole family until 5pm to kick back with some light entertainment and competitive action, or to watch live BT and Sky Sports match broadcasts in the upstairs bar area if that's their preferred past time.
Once it's dark out, expect the shot to go flying and that wild, fun-loving atmosphere that we all know and love from Roxys to return to all three storeys of the venue.
There's only a few more weeks to wait until the opening.
Roxy Lanes at The Light on Headrow will open to public on 11th February.
For more information, you can visit the Roxy Lanes Instagram page or keep an eye on our socials- we'll be bringing you plenty of updates on our experience once the new venue opens.

Dishoom announces official opening date for new Leeds restaurant
Clementine Hall
It's the moment we've all been waiting for, Dishoom is coming to Leeds.
The whispers of Dishoom's arrival in Leeds city centre have been going on for a while now, but over the past few weeks it has started to feel very real.
Taking over the beautiful old Flannel's site on the coveted Vicar Lane, signs started to pop up for Dishoom and work was cracking on fast.
Well now, we have an opening date - and we don't have long to wait.
Dishoom Leeds will open on Monday 3 August, with guests being able to enjoy 50% off food during an initial soft-opening period, ahead of the official opening on Friday 14 August.

As with every Dishoom café, the Leeds restaurant begins with a story. This one takes inspiration from the extraordinary true events surrounding the explosion of the SS Fort Stikine in Bombay Dock in April 1944, a wartime disaster that sent gold bars flying across the city.
Legend has it that some of the missing gold was never recovered. Some was discovered embedded in walls and rooftops across Bombay. Other pieces quietly disappeared into the hands of lucky citizens, melted into bangles or hidden away in drawers.
Dishoom Leeds reimagines the fortune made from the gold bars and guests will discover subtle references to the glamorous mid-century details through the interiors and artwork, giving playful nods to Bombay’s golden age.
With all day dining available, guests can dine on the beloved breakfast right through to late evening feasting, with the café will serve a lovingly curated menu of Bombay comfort food inspired by the city’s cafés, grills, street stalls and family kitchens.
Shamil Thakrar, co-founder, also known as Head Babu, at Dishoom, said: “Leeds is a city with tremendous warmth, creativity and character, full of people who know the value of gathering together over good food and drinks. Bringing Dishoom here has long been a dream for us.”
"The story behind this café is rooted in one of Bombay’s most extraordinary moments – the day gold bars fell from the sky after the explosion of Fort Stikine in 1944. Amidst the tragedy and chaos, there were also tales of unexpected fortune, human resilience and hopeful reinvention. We were captivated by this, and we cannot wait to welcome Leeds into the café that pays homage to the heritage of Bombay.”
