There’s a BEACH in Leeds city centre this summer

The Light will be transformed into a giant sand pit for the summer holidays.

The Light will be transformed an area of its shopping mall and leisure centre into a giant sandpit for summer- and it’s going to be free for families to enjoy.

Frisbees, beachballs and bucket and spades will all be on hand for children to enjoy some fun and games in the giant sandpit.

Equally importantly, deck chairs will be provided for parents to relax in as they watch their little ones get stuck in building sandcastles and digging holes.

Last year, the beach also featured a dinosaur egg hunt, as part of Leeds Jurassic Trail’s official ‘Giant Dino Egg Trail’.

The seaside theme was brought into Leeds last year as an alternative for those unable to leave the local area. Stephanie James, marketing manager at The Light, said at the time: “We know it’s going to be difficult for a lot of families to get away this half term, which is why we wanted to bring a taste of the seaside to Leeds.

“Our city centre beach location will be free for families from all over the city to come and use throughout the entire week, so that parents can enjoy a hard-earned rest for a short time in our beach deck chairs, while the kids have their own fun in the sand!”

The free beach will be open to families from 10am to 5pm throughout next week, returning from Saturday 23 July 2022 and remain in place until Monday 5 September 2022.
