Leeds United got back to winning ways this weekend and in fine fashion, striking four times in a five-goal thriller and a five-star performance against Crystal Palace.
They’ve had to settle for just two points over their last three matches, managing consecutive draws against Brentford and Liverpool, and while the latter was a perfectly respectable result against the admittedly struggling champions, the win has helped create a cushion above the drop zone.
Beating an otherwise impressive Palace squad 4-1 on Saturday night, who just so happened to have the best away performance in the Premier League – up until they visited Elland Road, that is – it looks like they’re now turning things around just in time for Christmas.
In fact, this isn’t the first time Daniel Farke’s team have picked up an important result over the festive period.

Yes, as well as hampering Palace’s record on the road, Leeds extended their habit of not just winning their last fixture before 25 December but scoring four.
It does often seem like the limbs in the Don Revie end are especially festive and jubilant at this time of year.
By the numbers, only title contenders Manchester City (12), Aston Villa (12), and Arsenal (9) have picked up more points this month, with The White scoring 11 goals over the past three weeks.
With a winnable game coming up against newly-promoted Sunderland (though the Black Cats have taken to life back in the top flight very well this season), they could be about to close out 2025 with a crucial cushion to put even more distance between them and a potential relegation scrap.
The postage stamp free-kick from Anton Stach definitely felt like an early gift this holiday period:
Leeds supporters and Yorkshire-based football fans, in general, will have no doubt been glad to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin enjoying a well-timed purple patch, too.
Having now registered six goals in five games, the Sheffield-born striker might just be knocking on the door of the England squad ahead of the World Cup next year.
Currently level with Phil Foden and Danny Welbeck as the joint-highest English goalscorers, we can all agree it’s good to have domestic talents fit and firing – it’s just a bonus when they’re Northern, ain’t it?
