In the award finals you've all been waiting for, we're pleased to announce that a Yorkshire takeaway has officially been crowned the best in the whole of the UK at the BTA's (British Takeaway Awards) this week.
You might think that a Yorkshire takeaway winning this award would be serving up pies or fish and chips, but you'd be wrong. Japanese restaurant Sakushi won hands down in two categories, taking home the gong for both the best takeaway in Britain and the best takeaway in Yorkshire at the ceremony.
Let's be honest, us Yorkshire lot love a good takeaway treat - and it seems that Sakushi came out head and shoulders above the competition, impressing with its mixture of hand-rolled sushi, katsu, teriyaki and gyoza.
Delivering up to 12 miles from the restaurant, the Sheffield restaurant also covers a huge radius seven days a week - putting paid to the 3-mile average delivery radiuses of most door-to-door app delivery services such as Uber Eats.
They've certainly been going above and beyond for their customers, we think it's fair to say.
Sharing the news to their social media, the team said:
"Sakushi isn't just the best in Yorkshire! We are the best in the UK! Thank you so much to everyone and it is our pleasure to serve you the best Japanese in the country!
Judged by Asma Khan from Netflix’s Chef’s Table and Mowgli founder and TV chef Nisha Katona MBE, they were up against some tough competition but cleared the floor by takihg home not one but two top awards on the night.
As well as claiming all the glory, Sakushi took home a total cash prize of £6,000 for the two awards combined, as well as being gifted £200 to spend on Just Eat takeaways.
Andrew Kenny, Managing Director of Just Eat, said: “Takeaway food is a massive part of our British culture and this year more than ever we wanted to recognise the local takeaways that kept the nation fed, while also making an immeasurable contribution to their local communities and the UK economy.
“From delivering a taste of normality when communities needed it most to providing healthier options we want to congratulate all of the deserving winners for continuing to bring the nation the food they love.”

It’s a world where traditions blend and evolve and we’ve built that ethos into the heart of both Madre and Salon Madre.”

We’ll keep you up to date with their opening times but for now, we'll see you at Salon Madre for a boogie, margarita and game of pool next week.
Award-winning Leeds restaurant announces shock closure just months after opening
Clementine Hall
Emba in Leeds will be closing its doors with the owner blaming rising costs and pressure on the hospitality sector.
Back in April last year, one of Leeds' top restaurants The Owl closed its doors.
Run by renowned Chef Liz Cottam, The Owl was reimagine into Emba - a trendy restaurant tat bridged 'the gap between cosy bar and vibrant dining room'.
To open Emba, Cottam opened a Crowdfunder where supporters would be awarded with prizes such as VIP dinners and merch depending on how much they donated.
But sadly just months after opening, Emba is to close permanently.
Cottam confirmed the sad news with a statement shared with customers over the weekend, saying she was completely "heartbroken".
She said: “This is no longer the right time to own independent restaurants like Emba,” she said. “Under the current conditions they cannot survive and the recent budget confirmed what so many of us already knew: no meaningful help is coming for hospitality.
"The experience of being here and the harsh financial reality of running a business here no longer stack up.
"Being award winning, popular, admired and loved no longer means profitable and as an industry if we’re honest most of us have not truly been okay since Covid."
She signed off the statement promising to return to the restaurant world, she said: “What I do know is this, I am not done. I will keep cooking, keep creating and keep finding ways to do the thing I love.”
