It’s official, Leeds city centre is about to get very merry as the hugely popular Christmas market is set to return.
Last year saw the highly anticipated return of the Leeds Christmas market, and it’s safe to say that they went down an absolute storm.
The city centre was flooded with festive cheer, as people flocked from far and wide to get their mittens grasped around a steaming cup of comforting mulled wine.
And as today marks just 100 days before Christmas (yes, really), the news that the market will be returning this year comes at just the perfect time.
But there will be some changes, as having listened to detailed feedback from visitors, the market will primarily be located on City Square and Millennium Square this year.
The market will welcome over 70 traditional stalls from local, national and international traders.
Kicking off on 22 November, the new and improved market will feature a host of pop-up musical performances and a wide selection of festive food and drinks as well as pop-up bars.
Market manager Nirmal Bassi said: “After carefully considering feedback from both visitors and traders, we’ve made exciting improvements to the market layout. We’re delighted to be back, bringing the festive sights, sounds, and aromas of Christmas to the city.”
Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s deputy leader and executive member for economy, transport and sustainable development, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming the Christmas market back to Leeds after such an exciting and successful debut year last year.
“The festive season is always a very special time in Leeds, and it’s great to see thousands of people coming together to experience Christmas at the heart of the city and making such great use of the newly redeveloped City Square space.”
