Well this is news we certainly couldn’t have predicted…
It’s safe to say that Christmas markets in the UK are well known for not being the most value for money, and that’s putting it politely.
You’d struggle to find a mulled wine for under a fiver, and don’t even get us started on the price of those pesky bratwurst.
In some circumstances, you even have to put a deposit on a mug that you wish to drink out of.

So when we heard that a new study run by credit card brand Aqua had ranked the most affordable markets in the UK, our ears suddenly pricked up.
And low and behold, Leeds Christmas Market came in third place.
Yes, really.
The study took into account a range of factors, from the entry cost, reviews related to value, average price of local hotels, and overall popularity on social media.
Holkham Hall in Norfolk claimed the top spot, with free entry, hotels averaging £139 per night and just five negative reviews mentioning price.

Leeds’ Christmas Market grabbed third plae, with only 28% of reviews mentioning the market being ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced.
It’s free to enter, so before we start whinging about the price of it maybe we should count ourselves lucky?
You’ve only got until this Sunday 21 December to visit the Leeds Christmas Markets, so run don’t walk if you want to see just how affordable it is for yourselves.
