It comes as no surprise to us to hear that Yorkshire has officially ranked as the best place for fish and chips in the country on TripAdvisor. No one does a chippy tea quite like us, after all.
Research by company Hertz has analysed every review for chippy teas in the country and Yorkshire has come out on top, with Scarborough ranking the highest with an average rating of 4.5 stars or more.
And that’s not all. Whitby came a close second with 30 4.5 star ratings and 32 shops that came in even higher, whilst Bridlington ranked at sixth with a total of 47 fish and chip takeaways ranking with at least 4.5 stars.
Hastings came in third, Perranporth fourth, and Blackpool fifth in the charts – with the Yorkshire coast as a whole scoring much more highly than the rest of the country’s offerings.
In total, Hertz found that of 240 fish and chip shops on the coast, 107 were rated over 4.5 stars and seven had earnt the top rating of 5.
Here in Leeds, meanwhile, the highest-rated chippy on Tripadvisor is Murgatroyds in Yeadon, with 4.5 stars and over 2,000 reviews, followed by The Oxford Place which has a 5-star rating from over 400 reviewers.
In third place here sits Skyliner Fish and Chip Restaurant with 592 reviewers giving it a collective score of 4.5 stars.
Skyliner also proudly proclaims on its Twitter that it was the 2021 winner of the best fish and chips award in Yorkshire – suggesting that TripAdvisor reviews aren’t quite everything.
David Hayward, general manager at Hertz, said: “With so many Brits’ looking to spend their summer holidaying across the UK again this year, we wanted to conduct the research to help visitors enjoy the best fish and chips around.
“We hope this research helps provide some inspiration on the best places to stay and road trip around this summer.”
