Prime Minister Boris Johnson appeared in a televised broadcast on Tuesday afternoon to update the nation on plans to contain the spread of a new "variant of concern", Omnicron.
He also said that another lockdown is ‘extremely unlikely’ and urged people to not ‘give this virus a second chance’.
Instead, the Prime Minister focused his speech on plans to ramp up the availability of booster jabs for all adults in the run-up to Christmas - saying that vaccination sites in England will be ‘popping up like Christmas trees’ as a new drive kicks off this December.
Johnson appeared in front of the nation today from Downing Street to address the rise in Omicron cases, a new Covid variant that now has 14 confirmed cases in the UK.
Mr Johnson said this afternoon that by the end of January, everyone eligible for a coronavirus booster jab will have been offered one.
Boosters will be offered to people in age order, prioritising the older and more clinically vulnerable.
Mr Johnson, who will get his own coronavirus vaccine booster on Thursday this week, added: “So whenever your turn comes, get your booster and ask your friends and your family to do the same.
“It’s time for another great British vaccination effort. We’ve done it before and we’re going to do it again.
“And let’s not give this virus a second chance.”
The time between second jabs and boosters will be halved from six months to three.
he PM added: “Another lockdown like we have seen before is extremely unlikely.
“I will be up front with you about that, but we keep everything under consant review.
“We see no cause to move to Plan B but as I said many times, we have to keep things under review.”
Health secretary Sajid Javid said: “If we want to give ourselves the best chance of a Christmas with our loved ones, the best thing we can all do is step up, roll up our sleeves, and get protected when the time comes.”
The PM also said he doesn’t believe a return to working from home is ‘necessary’ at this stage.

A valid question to which Jacob replies "rocks and sheep". I mean, he's got a fair point.
Margot Robbie went into a little more detail, she said "Sunrise and sunset in Yorkshire is a pretty dramatic experience. The sky is literally like red and orange. I honestly couldn't believe it when I was out there. The landscape is stunning."

Popular Leeds gaming bar announces immediate shock closure after going into liquidation

Point Blank in Leeds city centre have suddenly closed after going into liquidation.
The popular gaming bar hasn't been open all that long, and was marketed as the country's first simulated shooting range bar.
Despite being a popular attraction since opening last year, the bar has closed immediately, unable to honour any future bookings.
Point Blank confirmed late this Tuesday 3 February that it had sadly entered liquidation, describing the move as “completely unforeseen and beyond our control.”

Up until just a few days ago, the Point Blank branch in Leeds had been promoting events including happy hours, shooting experiences, and even a Superbowl event scheduled for next Sunday 8 February.
A statement on their website reads: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Point Blank Shooting has entered liquidation.
"This situation was completely unforeseen and beyond our control. Due to our Manchester landlord entering administration, our lease was lost as part of that process. This had a serious knock-on effect across the wider business, leaving us with no other option.
"After seven incredible years of trading, this is a devastating moment for everyone involved at Point Blank.
"If you currently have a booking with us, we are working closely with the relevant parties to gain clarity and provide answers. We kindly ask for your patience while this process is ongoing.
"Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years — hopefully this is a see you later, not a goodbye."
