The Good Food Guide has just released its list of the 100 best local restaurants in Britain – and two Leeds spots have made the list.
The latest edition of the Best 100 Local Restaurants list celebrates the very best venues that are loved by their communities.
This year, two suburb-based restaurants have made the coveted list, Bavette in Horsforth, and The Swine Bistro in Headingley.
It’s no surprise that Bavette has been featured, after being named the very best local restaurant overall last year it’s been scooping up prizes left right and centre since it’s opening in February last year.
The Good Food Guide said: “‘Well done, Bavette, for getting me outside the M25,’ a reader cheers. Quite a way outside too, but the journey to Leeds was evidently worth it to dine at Sandy Jarvis and Clément Cousin’s convivial neighbourhood bistro in the northerly suburb of Horsforth. Shelves of books on deep green walls create a smart domestic ambience, and the food does the rest.
“It’s a Franco-Yorkshire alliance in every sense (M Cousin hails from Anjou on the Loire), and the menu reflects that collaborative spirit.”
The Swine Bistro on Otley Road, formerly known as The Swine That Dines, relocated to Headingley in April and has clearly made waves already in the foodie world.
The guide praised their affordable lunch option which includes “a bordelaise sauce made lip-smackingly sticky with bone marrow.”
Reacting to the fantastic news, co-owner Jo Myers wrote: “To actually get on to the list, to be mentioned alongside with such other wonderful establishments, was more than we could have dreamed of! It’s a testament to all the hard work the whole team have put in.”
Other nearby spots featured are Bench in Sheffield and Coin over in Hebden Bridge.
