Congratulations Gareth.

The former England boss and Leeds local has been awarded a knighthood in the New Years Honours list.

Southgate, who lives in Harrogate near Leeds, stepped down from the role in July after triumphantly leading England to the Euro 2024 final.

He is the fourth England manager to be knighted, following Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Walter Winterbottom, and Sir Alf Ramsey.

Sir Gareth won a whopping 57 caps for England between the years of 1995 and 2004 and also played at three major tournaments – Euro 1996, 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Sir Gareth is among 1,200 others to be included in this year’s list which features people from fields including sport, business, entertainment and politics.

Not only does it highlight the success of people already in the public eye, it also celebrates the incredible unsung achievements of people who make major to their local communities, to charities and to education and healthcare.

The New Year Honours are awarded by the King, following recommendations from the Prime Minister and senior government ministers.

Other notable names on the 2025 list include Stephen Fry, Sarah Lancashire, Alan Titchmarsh, Keeley Hodgkinson and Myleene Klass.

Congratulations Gareth, you’re an absolute legend.
