There’s so much going on in Leeds this January, it’s not quite the post-Christmas time where we were expecting- not that we’re complaining. Whether you’re looking for good grub, winter walks or you want to do something you’ve never done before, here’s or favourite picks this January.

Make the most of Veganuary promotions

This January, Veganuary is back and bigger than ever in Leeds. If you’re planning on challenging yourself to 31 days of plant-based goodness, there are plenty of promotions to help you achieve your goals for less- and still allow you to eat out at your favourite bars and restaurants. The Box, Manahatta and Banyan are collectively offering 50% off all food during select times across the month and will be stocking everything from Moving Mountains burgers and ‘not-dogs’ to Northern Bloc ice cream.

Watch the Harry Potter Reunion

There will be around 1 million people isolating on New Year’s Day- so what can you do that’s new for 2022 but still stay indoors? Muggles and wizards of Leeds will be sitting down on New Years Day at 8pm to watch the reunion of Harry Potter and the rest of the Hogwarts cast.. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will return to Hogwarts alongside character favourites like Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs and Gary Oldham.

Join the Board Games Afternoon at Hyde Park Book Club

If you’ve been testing out your best Monopoly tactics over Christmas or just don’t want to let go of the festive period traditions just yet, Hyde Park book club is hosting an afternoon of board games for all. Staff will be there to recommend and teach games from a massive selection of retro and modern games, as well as pour you some of the most refreshing pints around.

Join the Leeds LGBT+ Dog Walkers Meetup

The dog walkers from the Leeds LGBT+ Dog Walkers group have created an inclusive space to openly talk about mental health– you don’t even need a dog to join. In January, the group are meeting at Meanwood Park to raise money for MindOut in memory of Tom Mansell, so walkers are encouraged to bring any donations they can.

The event will move from the Outdoor Market site and will bring together a huge variety of artisan bakers, craft brewers, ethical jewellers, local artists, zero-waste champions, environmental charities and more. Plus, the entire event is climate positive which means the company offset the associated emissions and plant a tree for every stall holder that takes part.

Attend the West Park Hotel Charity Dinner

To bring in the new year and raise money for Hospitality Action, a national charity supporting workers in the face of adversity, the West Park Hotel in Harrogate will play host to a charity dinner prepared by some of our county’s finest chefs. Grab a seat, splash out on the £100, because a whopping 75% of the ticket will be donated to charity, and the menu has been hand-crafted by some of Yorkshire’s top chefs.

Speaking ahead of the shows, Dancer, Rhys Stephenson said “I cannot think of a better way to start the New Year!
