Following the stellar headline spot at Leeds Festival 2023 this past weekend, The 1975 have now confirmed their huge and highly anticipated European tour simply entitled, ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ — but there’s a catch...
They won’t be playing in Leeds. Sigh.
The hugely popular pop-rock group, led by the internet’s favourite/most divisive frontman Matty Healy, will be back returning to arenas all across the UK and Europe, but apparently their recent Reading and Leeds gig was enough for the time being.
Even more annoyingly, The 1975‘s new tour dates are set to be their biggest-ever shows in Europe, including two nights at The O2 in London and a massive homecoming gig at Manchester’s AO Arena, but none of Leeds’ wonderful venues have made the list.
While you could argue them covering Lewis Capaldi’s headline slot due to a much-needed mental health break wasn’t just the end of the last tour cycle but the start of this new one, it’s still a shame we won’t get a dedicated gig anywhere in Yorkshire.
Even more frustratingly, not only will this upcoming batch of shows — spanning the depth and breadth of Europe between February and March — wrap up their Being Funny In A Foreign Language campaign but it’s also rumoured to be their last run of gigs for some time.
Nevertheless, we’re sure there’ll still be plenty of their usual on-stage antics should choose to go along to a nearby concert, be it snogging each other or eating raw meat live on stage for reasons that still escape us.
Our friends over at The Manc went along to watch them at the start of the year and gave them rave reviews.
The one thing we will say is there’s definitely space for them to add other shows in between the current list of dates, so we’re just keeping our fingers crossed they squeeze a Leeds gig in there at some point.
Their previous ‘At Their Very Best’ tour spanned nine months and sold half a million tickets, wowing crowds with surprise appearances, impressive staging, as well as plenty of autotuned yelling, and it’s safe to say they won’t struggle for demand around here.
The Wilmslow band have also announced a number of limited-edition formats of their self-titled debut album, The 1975, including a live recording of their intimate Manchester gig at Gorilla, where they played it in full to make the 10th anniversary.
Tickets for The 1975 will be available through an Exclusive Fan Presale on Wednesday 6 September at 10am local time, with tickets then on general sale through See Tickets on Friday 8 September at 10am local time. Fingers crossed they whack a local date or two on there as well.
