This week we’ve got disco club nights, Leeds Light Night, Van Gogh alive and so many foodie offerings to choose from, it’s going to be a busy week.

BACIL Awards

BACIL (Business Against Crime in Leeds) is a dedicated organisation protecting businesses both in retail and the night-life industry in Leeds. Their aim is to make the city a safer place for both consumers and staff who work in the hospitality and retail sectors. The awards for both the daytime and night-time sector will be held this week in Leeds and during the event the best security team, best national venue, best independent venue, best BACIL partnership, and outstanding BACIL contribution will be announced.

ABBA Disco Wonderland

One of the biggest ABBA Tribute Club nights is coming back to Leeds, and it’s the perfect opportunity for ABBA lovers to reunite under one roof. The ABBA Disco Wonderland has completed a full four years of sell out tours, and over this time have continued to bring the best of 70s and 80s to venues across the UK and beyond, so expect wild fancy dress, confetti canons, CO2 jets and more, all down to a tee.

Light Night

Thursday 13 October – Friday 14 October 2022 | Various locations

This years theme is ‘Playful City’ which will invite visitors to engage and interact with the city in exciting, new and innovate ways. Iconic Leeds landmarks and locations will host jaw-dropping illuminations and installations, from The Queen’s Hotel to the Leeds Art Gallery.

Opera North presents Orpheus

Friday 14 October – Sunday 16 October 2022 | Grand Theatre, New Briggate

Opera North Orchestra Huddersfield

Orpheus will be a groundbreaking reimagining of one of the earliest surviving operas, Monteverdi’s 1607 work L’Orfeo. The production will open at the Leeds Grand Theatre this October before touring other northern theatres alongside Verdi’s La traviata, and concerts of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice.

Tickets cost from £10 for Under 30 members, then £25 – £80.50 for regular tickets.

Van Gogh Alive

Friday 14 October – Sunday 16 October 2022 | Regency Hall, Bradford

Van Gogh Alive takes people on a trip through the periods of Van Gogh’s life that defined him as an artist – showcasing 3,000 images including iconic works like Starry Night, Sunflowers and lesser-known paintings inspired by his love of Japanese woodprints. The exhibition is also home to a life-sized walk-in representation of Van Gogh’s ‘Bedroom in Arles’ painting and a ‘Sunflower selfie room’ – a 360° mirrored space complete with hundreds of sunflowers.

Live At Leeds: In The City Festival

The festival has previously seen the likes of Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, The 1975, Lizzo, Sam Fender, Royal Blood, Sam Smith, Tom Grennan and many more take to the stage before going to become global successes, so those looking to find up-and-coming talent will be sure to find some independent names destined for cities far bigger than Leeds in the future. This year, expect to hear from Pale Waves, Sundara Karma, White Lies and some 150 more.

Tickets cost £39 each plus a booking fee, plus limited VIP tickets are available for an additional amount.

Ox Club Sunday Roast

Featured in the Michelin guide and the good food guide, the Ox Club’s fire cooking is legendary in Leeds. When it comes to Sunday roasts, they don’t disappoint. Think roast rump cap of beef with bone marrow gravy, wild garlic and sage porchetta with smoked trotter and fennel gravy, or roast breast of guinea fowl and confit leg with tarragon gravy – then tell us you’re not hungry.

As for the non-meat eaters, there’s coal-roasted celeriac with pearl barley risotto and truffle gravy, or a truffle cheese pie served with comte, and truffle gravy. Divine.

Pizza Punks Bottomless Brunch

Far from the average margarita, choose from a whopping 35 different additions to your San Franciscan sourdough, including the likes of pepperoni, rum ham hock, caramelised pineapple, garlic and rosemary potatoes.

For those opting for a fresh pasta, there’s plenty of additions to spice up your dish like ‘Nduja, Tuscan sausage, salt and chilli chicken and more at no additional cost. The £31.50 price tag covers everything on the menu from start to finish, no matter how many toppings you choose to add, or drinks you manage to get through in the time period.

Bundobust Oktoberfest Specials

Ensuring that the Oktoberfest celebrations last far longer than the fortnight celebrations and span into October itself, celebrated Indian street food restaurant Bundobust has been serving up its own reimagining of classic Oktoberfest specials. The quartet of dishes includes Currywurst Koftas, Kartoffelpuffers, Bataka Salat and Prost Pickles and two beer specials too.

Ilkley Literature Festival

The Ilkley Literature Festival hosts an array of leading literary geniuses each year and this year’s exciting programme hints towards another show stopping celebration of the arts. The festival aims to celebrate all things reading and writing, with over 90 events exploring fiction, non-fiction and poetry, with authors from politicians to actors, academics to mountaineers, and journalists to chefs.
