‘The Otley Run’ to be renamed ‘The Otley Walk’ after Leeds uni student pulls hamstring

A new speed limit has been put into place for participants.

The name of the iconic Leeds pub crawl will be changed after disgruntled parent complains to the council.

Belinda Stumbles embarked on the Otley Run with her flatmates on 29 February 2023, but the day didn’t quite go exactly as planned.

Whilst doing the obligatory sprint between pubs, as is the unwritten rule, Stumbles fell to the ground outside The Original Oak and tragically pulled her right hamstring.

Ironically, she was dressed as an Olympic runner.

She and her friends then had to abandon the crawl and return back to their student halls, where Belinda nursed her hamstring with a bag of frozen peas.

Telling her mother about the accident, Mrs Stumbles quickly emailed the council and urged them to put measures in to stop students running between pubs and subsequently injuring themselves.

Mrs Stumbles told The Hoot: “Due to the name of the crawl, participants feel pressured to run between each venue and this has to stop.

“It could cause a number of injuries including a pulled hamstring, athlete’s foot or even a stubbed toe – the list really is endless. I think it’s time that we encourage walking instead of running and rename the crawl The Otley Walk.”

The council happily obliged and as of today, The Otley Run is to be renamed The Otley Walk and a speed limit of 2.5 mph will be put into place with speed cameras being installed along the route.

It’s important to note that Belinda Stumbles made a full recovery and is excited to attempt the crawl again whilst walking.

“I’m grateful to have made a speedy recovery and promise to take it slow and steady next weekend.”

Happy April Fools!
