England’s football players have revealed that they intend to donate millions of pounds of Euro 2020 prize money to NHS if they win the final on Sunday.
The squad could net up to £9.6 million if they are victorious against Italy this Sunday.
Players are keen to share the prize money with the NHS, in a move repotedly spearheaded by England midfielder and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
According to reports, Henderson was the driving force behind last May’s #Playerstogether campaign, which saw Premier Leaguer footballers come together to make a huge private donation to NHS charities.
Now, it looks like players are bucking the trend again – having declared their intentions to give the prize cash to the Health Service if they take home the trophy this weekend.
The Football Association could be awarded around £24 million in prize money if the Three Lions are victorious at Wembley on Sunday night.
A portion of that fee – roughly £9.5m – will be given to Gareth Southgate’s team, shared amongst the 26-man squad. However, the players intend to donate this money to the struggling NHS as a tribute to all they have done throughout the pandemic.

A statement released by the team’s players ahead of the Euro’s final this Sunday reads: “Following positive discussions with the FA, the England senior men’s squad are pleased to confirm that a significant donation from their international match fees will be made to NHS Charities Together via the #PlayersTogether initiative.
“This contribution will be taken from a fund already set aside to support a variety of worthy causes using all match fees collated since September 2018.”
