Plans for a huge 37-storey student skyscraper have been approved

A huge student accommodation block is set to be built on top of the Merrion Centre.

Approval has been granted for a brand new block of student accommodation at the Merrion Centre in Leeds City Centre.

Yep, just what we needed…more student accommodation.

The plans will see the 13-storey Wade House, an empty office building, transformed into a show stopping purpose-built student accommodation.

This includes a huge 37-storey skyscraper on the adjacent 100MC side.

The tower is set to house 800 people and the plans include adding a further 223 beds, as well as a gym, cinema and laundry room.

Members of Leeds City Council’s City Plans panel described the project as “sensible” and “remarkable”, when approving the decision.

The building, which would be located near three conservation areas, will be visible from numerous parts of the city centre including Millennium Square.

This development is a vital part of our long-term vision to further diversify the Merrion estate, continuing to evolve our retail, leisure, office and now residential offering to meet the changing needs of the city.”
