And they’re asking for our help to make it a reality.
Just last week we discovered the sad news that Chef Liz Cottam’s The Owl would be permanently closing its doors.
The beloved restaurant had been going since 2019, but announced its closure stating that a “new chapter is on its way”.
And now we know what the new chapter is, and it’s called ’emba’.
Taking over the site of The Owl on Mustard Wharf, emba ‘bridges the gap between cosy bar and vibrant dining room’.
Emba’s website gives us a little peek into its future, reading: “Expect delicious food & drinks, great music and top notch service without any faff.
“Hang out with us overlooking the water in Leeds city centre whether you fancy a drink, a snack, a comforting plate of something, or full set menu with paired wines.
“The food we choose to cook is the food we love to eat. Lots of big flavours, plenty of fat, fire and comforting familiarity.”
But, the team need our help to make emba a reality and have launched a Crowdfunder.
The Crowdfunder reads: “I’m choosing to cook the food I love to eat: bold flavours, plenty of fat and fire, and that comforting sense of familiarity.
“My team and I have built a reputation for unpretentious, attentive, and genuinely warm service—and that same high standard is coming with me to emba.
“When you back emba, you’re not just giving us a hand—you’re becoming part of the story. That’s why we’ve created a set of genuinely brilliant rewards to say thank you.
“Whether you fancy a long lunch, want your name on the art wall, or exclusive VIP dinners and behind-the-scenes access, there’s something for everyone.”
You can donate as much or as little as you fancy, and you’ll receive prizes when you do so such as a lunch for two if you give £75 or a tote bag for £25.
