Yorkshire Natural History Museum set to open this summer

Are you a fossil lover? Then this one’s for you.

A brand new museum of Yorkshire Natural History will be opening in Sheffield this August.

We may have all been to the one in London, but luckily for us we are getting our very own Natural History Museum right here in Yorkshire.

The small (but mighty) public museum will feature geology, palaeontology and botany collections as well as a significantly large research collection of fossils from the Yorkshire Lias.

The museum will be opening on Holme Lane in Sheffield on 13th August 2022 and will be an affordable day out for all the family to enjoy.

The exciting new project has been in the works for just over a year and has seen the former steel works undergo a fantastic transformation from warehouse to museum.

The venture has been privately funded from a group of trustees including James Hogg, who is very excited about the project after spending months on end curating the collections for the museum.

Hogg spoke to BBC Sheffield about the new opening, “It is a relatively small museum but there is still quite a bit to see. There are two floors, the first has a cafe and the entrance hall and up the stairs is where you will find the main gallery.”

“This is where you will see all sorts of things such as fossils to plants to geological items, minerals to meteorites, a bit of everything.”

At the moment entrance prices will be £4 per adult, £2 per child and £10 for a family of four. The main aim is to make it as affordable and accessible as possible for families to have a fun day out whilst learning about the fascinating natural history of Yorkshire.
