Leeds Council snow update as the city is impacted by heavy snowfall

Gritting, bin collections and school closures.

Leeds Council are working hard to ensure the city keeps ticking over as heavy snowfall continues to cause major problems across the North.

The city has been covered with a blanket of snow in the past 24 hours, and although it may look pretty it does infact cause a huge amount of problems.

In order to maintain as much normality as possible, Leeds City Council have been working hard throughout the night to ensure people can go on with their daily lives.

Gritting teams were on the road throughout the night, treating and ploughing all main routes in and out of the city. Many of these routes have now been reported as either completely clear or clearing.

Today’s bin collections are likely to be affected, the council say. Plans have been put in place to revisit missed streets over the weekend and even into Monday where possible.

Many schools are closed today whilst others have decided to open late, full details on this can be found here on the Government’s website.

The council is aiming to open as many community hubs as possible however arrangements will differ from site to site depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

Those planning to visit a hub are advised to check on the situation at their intended destination before setting out, contact information can be found here.
